We were supposed to be strong together, the best team in the entire world, but now it all seems so laughable.

How long has he been doing this?

Has he always cheated?

“I can’t fucking do this,” I whisper, my voice barely audible over the hustle and bustle in the shop. “I just can’t.”

Tony reaches out to me with a shaking hand. “Astra, please,” he pleads. “Don’t leave me. We can work this out. We’re great together.”

I shake my head and speak firmly. “No. There isn’t any working this out. You betrayed my trust and hurt me in the most unimaginable of ways. I’m done with you, Tony. You can come get your shit out of the apartment tomorrow.”

The moment to give him a second chance has passed, and our love is meaningless.

At least the love I had for him was real, because someone who loves you will never hurt you like this.

I turn away from them, my heart breaking all over again with each step I take.

As I walk away, I hear him call my name, but I don’t look back. Not this time. I’m not going to be in his story, being made out to be the fool.

As I make my way out of the coffee shop, my heart pounds with anger.

The magnitude of what he’s done is really hitting me.

Tears sting the back of my eyes, but I’m not going to let them fall anymore.

Tony doesn’t deserve any more of my tears.

Not now, not ever.

I make it around the corner of the building when something hard slams into my side, sending me into the alleyway to my right.

My head hits the lip of a dumpster with a hard thud, and stars dance before my eyes.

The world spins out of control, and all I can hear is the pounding in my ears.

As I try to gather myself, I feel a rough hand clamp down on my wrist, forcing me to stay on the ground.

My heart races as I look over my shoulder and see Tony’s enraged face staring back at me. “You stupid bitch,” he growls, spit flying from his lips. “You think you can just walk away from me? That’s not how this works.”

I try to pull my arm away from his. “I meant what I said. I’m done, Tony,” I whisper, my voice shaking with fear and determination. “I want a divorce, and you can have her. But she’s not the one you should be worried about.”

His grip tightens, and his eyes narrow to slits. I’ve only seen his temper like this a couple of times, and I know I’m the reason his mood is so sour. “You’re fucking crazy if you think I’m letting you go,” he snarls, his voice low and menacing. “You’re mine, and I’ll be damned if I let you leave.”

I can still feel the pain radiating from my head, the metallic taste of blood in my mouth.

With my eyes glaring into his, anger is burning through the fear that’s threatening to consume me. “You think so? Well, maybe it’s time you realize I can do whatever I fucking want. This isn’t the 1800s. I’m not tied to you until death. I want a divorce, and I’m getting one.”

His eyes narrow, and he takes a step toward me. “You don’t get to leave after I fucked up one time, Astra. Our love is better than that. We can survive this.”

I laugh in his face, my voice shaking with determination. “No, I’m done being your doormat. You can go to hell, Tony.”

He snarls at me, “You think you can just walk away from this? From me?”

I stand my ground, refusing to back down. “Yes, I do. I don’t deserve to be cheated on by the man who’s supposed to love me.”

His face twists into a mask of rage, and before I can react, he lunges at me.

I scream as he grabs my arm, twisting it painfully behind my back. Panic surges through me, and stars continue to fill my vision.
