I try to push him away, and he ends up slamming me back against the dumpster.

My head hits the cool metal again, and my vision becomes blurry.

The world spins around me, and I’m falling to the ground.

The pain is intense, shooting through my skull like lightning.

I tried to push myself up, but the world kept spinning.

Weakness surges through me like a raging thunderstorm, and I’m dizzier than I’ve ever been.

All of a sudden, I glance up and the last thing I see is Tony’s sinister smirk.

He isn’t going to let me leave him, but I’ll die trying.

Present Day . . .

Python

Oakleigh bounces on her toes, her eyes lingering with anxiousness.

Finally, she whips her head up and looks at me. “Python, look, I know we don’t know each other very well, but would you mind taking me to a cat café in the city?”

I arch my brows. “A cat café? What the fuck is that?”

Oakleigh laughs lightly. “Well, it’s a coffee shop sort of style store, that has cats you can adopt or who have been saved from kill shelters, the streets, that sort of thing. I don’t just want to go for the cats. I really want to meet the owner. She supports local artists, and we’ve been talking about potentially putting some of my pieces up in the store.”

It would be a great opportunity for her. “Why won’t your ol’ man take you?”

I can’t wait to hear the answer to this.

Oakleigh takes a sip of her water bottle and swallows hard. “Razor doesn’t want me leaving at all right now because of everything going on with Elias.”

Elias is the man Rosa was supposed to marry and didn’t. Instead, she married Axel.

I’m a little late to find all of this out, and I’m still trying to make sense of a few situations.

Oakleigh continues, “Rosa would normally be the one going out with me. You know we’ve become really good friends, but since the Elias situation is so heated, and then add in the fact she and Axel are still in Montana getting all of their things packed and ready, I don’t have another choice.”

I lick my lips and point out the obvious. “You could ask your ol’ man.”

Oakleigh looks at me sternly and plasters a stern look on her face. “I could, but I’m not going to because I’m not going to be told no when it can benefit me greatly. Razor has the club. He’s the VP and has something in his grasp, you know? All I do here is little shit, cook, clean, and then there’s my painting. If I can get my paintings up in this café, I can start making a name for myself, Python. So, please, escort me there so I don’t have to go by myself.”

Ah, she knows exactly what she’s doing.

If Razor were to find out I knew she was planning on going out by herself, he’d have my ass for it.

Well played, Oakleigh.

Licking my lips, I huff out my compliance. “Fine, we’ll go.”

My eyes flick to the window, scanning the asphalt in front of the clubhouse.

While we have cement walls up around the building, I can’t help but feel the need to keep a constant eye out.

Elias is outraged that Rosa married Axel, furious that the agreement Rafael made is no longer on the table.
