Astra’s the kind of woman who’s had her trust betrayed, so naturally it will take time for it to be earned.

I mean what I’ve told her.

I will protect her, no matter the cost.

“Okay,” she breathes out, a single word that shouldn’t mean much, but it does.

Right now, I’m not just a biker who has the hots for her.

I’m her anchor in this endless sea of chaos.

I’m the one thing standing between her and the deadly storms that threaten to consume her.

She swallows hard and looks right into my eyes, “I didn’t want to drag you into all of this, but I didn’t know who else to text when he called.”

Astra stifles a laugh, “I feel like an idiot. I thought he would leave me alone if I told him you were my boyfriend, that it would scare him off. It’s like he was excited for the challenge.”

I stand up and pull Astra up with me, tugging her close to my body. “His excitement will die quickly, I can promise you that. Do I look like the kind of man who lets people pull one over on me?”

She shakes her head, her breathing finally starting to steady. “No, you don’t.”

I can’t help the way my heart stutters at the thought of being her protector, to keep her safe from this imminent harm.

She chokes on her own breath, terror seizing her voice, and finally speaks up. “Python, he’s lost his marbles. I can hear it in his voice. The only thing he wants is vengeance, to punish me.”

My tone is calm, though on the inside it’s burning like a raging inferno. “He can want whatever he wants, but he’s not going to get it.”

She licks her lips and sucks in a deep breath. “I think that he wants to hurt you too, make you pay for touching what belongs to him.”

Her words don’t startle me in the least bit.

If anything, it makes me excited to put him in his place and humble him.

Ha, he wouldn’t be the first lunatic who thought it was a good idea to come after me.

He’ll end up like the last one—meeting his maker.

Astra might have named me her man in a desperate ploy to get him off her back, but it’s what I am.

I’m her man and I’m going to protect her.

It’s a badge I’ll wear with a dark honor.

For fuck’s sake, I’m the club’s Enforcer, I have no problem keeping her safe too.

I’m as confident as ever, because I know he won’t pull it off. “Don’t worry about me, Astra. Let him try his best. He won’t succeed.”

The air around us feels charged, heavy with the tension her husband has bestowed upon us.

I see the struggle in her eyes, the way she wants to flee, yet is struggling with the need to stand her ground.

She’s a fighter. I knew that much the first time I saw her, with her inked armor and eyes full of untold stories.

Astra’s eyes go wide with worry. “Python, this is serious. He’s not going to stop.”

I lick my lips and bore my eyes into her own. “Neither will I, sweet girl.”

I refuse to back down.
