His chest rises and falls with a steady rhythm and I can’t help but lay here and watch him.

He seems so peaceful right now, but in our dreams we’re at our most relaxed state.

Tattoos snake across his skin, a tapestry of ink telling tales of things I don’t yet know.

I love the sea theme he has along his back.

I didn’t notice it until last night when he walked to get us a snack after a few rounds in the sack.

It’s an oversized Kraken taking down a ship of sailors in the middle of a thunderstorm.

It felt like a sign, to see we both have a Kraken tattoo.

I’ve always found mystical creatures very interesting, have even had an odd fascination with them, so I think Python must too.

These are the sorts of things that make me excited to learn more about him, to see what his pet peeves and quirks are.

Licking my lips, the room is quiet except for our breathing.

His presence sets me at ease from the dangers lurking beyond these four walls.

This bed is nothing more than an island in a sea of uncertainty, holding us both, distracting us from the mayhem that surrounds us.

I still can’t believe everything that happened last night, or that Tony is really here.

I watch Python for a few moments, the way his chest rises and falls.

It’s hypnotic and calming in the best of ways.

Even with knowing the kind of danger I’m in, there’s something about Python that makes me believe I’ll make it through the other side of this.

There’s no doubt in my mind he’s going to do everything in his power to keep me safe, and I’m forever grateful.

His eyes flicker open and it’s like he hasn’t missed a beat.

He immediately searches the room, looking for any hidden threats before his eyes finally land on mine.

I’m starting to realize he’s the kind of man who’s always ready, who’s always prepared for whatever lies in front of him.

He doesn’t say anything at first, until his gaze finds mine.

Python stares into my eyes for a moment before dragging his eyes down my body, almost like he’s checking to make sure I’m okay.

His voice is hoarse, “Good morning,”

I clear my throat and reply softly, “Morning, Manuel.”

Even in saying this simple morning greeting, I can feel the tension between us.

I felt it the first day he walked in, the immediate draw I had toward him, but I didn’t want to give in.

I move closer to him and lay my head on his chest, the scent of leather and charcoal lingers heavy on his skin.

Python forces me even closer, using his arm to hold me firmly against him.

My old, cheap mattress dips beneath his weight. “I’m glad you’re open to staying at the clubhouse for a bit. It’ll make me feel a lot better.” his voice a low rumble that vibrates through the space between us. “It’s temporary, until we can deal with Tony.”

The mention of Tony’s name sends a jolt of fear through me, but I can’t let it affect me like this.
