If I were in his position, I’d probably be pissed too.

He was promised to a cartel princess, and she married a nobody when she could have married him and given him more power within the Bolivian cartel.

It makes sense, but she’s made her choice, and there’s nothing he can do about it.

Instead, he’s wasting precious time and resources by having his men around the clubhouse.

What is his end game?

What does he hope to achieve?

Does he think that Rosa will be foolish enough to walk outside one day alone so his men can swipe her off the streets?

The thought is laughable. He should know better than that.

Or does he think he can kill Axel and Rosa will be his for the taking?

Either option won’t come to fruition, not with the club behind Rosa and Axel’s backs.

Even though I can’t see out onto the street, I know danger is lurking there.

The Hernandez cartel wants their vengeance, and I wonder how they’re going to get it.

They can try, but the club won’t let them have it.

No one is supposed to leave the clubhouse alone, and I’m not going to sit back and tell Oakleigh she can’t go somewhere she obviously wants to visit.

If you ask me, any woman in the club deserves to have some normalcy, just a bit of joy untainted by the bullshit that comes along with the club.

I sigh, knowing damn well I’m giving in. “All right, I’ll go with you.”

I’ll have to stay on high alert, but at least she’ll be able to go out and enjoy herself for a while.

Oakleigh smirks and nods. “I knew I was going to like you. You’re not as rigid as everyone makes you out to be.”

I arch a single brow and cock my head to the side. “Now I’m curious. What are they saying about me?”

Oakleigh licks her lips and shrugs. “Nothing too special . . . but I do know a bit more about why you stick to yourself so much.”

I cross one of my legs over the other while I sit back in the leather chair. “Oh? Do tell.”

“Your father met your mother while he was at a motel. His house caught on fire, and he was there for a while. It’s where they fell in love and got married. She was a Mexican immigrant, and he was, ironically enough, a border control agent.”

I have to hand it to her. She’s found out more about me than most of the men I’ve known for twenty years.

I’m both impressed and bothered by how she came to discover this information. “Who told you this shit?”

Oakleigh smirks. “No one. You left your wallet out one night, so I saw your legal name, and then I went digging. It was pretty easy to match your name with your date of birth, the address listed on your driver’s license, all of it.”

I crack up laughing. Never in my life did I think someone would ever dig through my wallet and essentially do a background check on me.

Once I finally catch my breath I speak up. “I’m sure that means you’ve found everything out.”

Oakleigh’s smile dissipates from her face. “Yeah. I’m sorry about your father. Reading about his death made me so sad for you.”

He gave his life to being a border control agent, and that’s where it ended, too.

Not too long after he died, my mother had a heart attack, and it left me completely alone.
