I have no idea who that is. “Who’s that?”

Axel pipes in, “Ashley’s ex-husband. To put it lightly, he was an abusive piece of shit. The club dealt with him, just like we’ll deal with anyone who hurts our own, or the ladies we care about.”

Axel’s right, we’ll handle anyone who wants to hurt those we care about.

I lick my lips and shake my head. “I just wish the son of a bitch would show his damn face. He’s lurking in the shadows, just waiting for his moment to pop out and cause problems. I can sense it.”

I rise from my kneeling position and check my oil, then completely finish going over my bike.

Since the tires needed to be put back on, I decided to give the whole thing a once over, make sure everything is running properly, and sort it all out if it wasn’t.

“We all have her back,” Axel adds. “I have a feelin’ like she’s not goin’ anywhere anytime soon.”

I crack up, “Yeah, well, all of us need to get apartments, remember? Amara doesn’t want any couples living in the club.”

Zorro scrolls on his phone, “I’ve been getting updates about houses and apartments for sale that are close. There are two houses attached to the other, a duplex of sorts. I was gonna talk to you about it later,” he’s looking right at Axel.

Axel raises his brows. “How big are the houses?”

“Doesn’t say anythin’ bout square footage, but they’re three bedrooms, two bathrooms.”

Axel nods. “Not bad. Price point?”

Zorro scrolls up, “Cheap as fuck. Remember, we’re not in the most pleasant part of the city.”

I stand up and head over to the nearby sink to clean myself up.

Once I’m done, I grab my bottle of beer and down the last few drops.

The cold liquid goes down smooth despite the heat beating through the open doorway.

My brothers are right, though.

We’re good at protecting our own and there won’t be any issues.

I just can’t help but have some worries float around in my mind.

My main goal is keeping her safe, and I doubt anyone realizes how serious I’m taking this.

We might have only been dating for a short while, but my feelings are strong for her already.

Still, I can’t shake the feeling that something’s coming.

Call it instinct from being a biker for twenty years, but I can always sense when something is just over the horizon.

It’s kinda hard to ignore the little voice that keeps you alive this long.

I toss the empty bottle into trashcan in a nearby corner.

The anger I’m trying so desperately to keep at bay begins to coil tight in my gut.

Motioning toward my bike, “I knew it was her ex who did this as soon as I saw it,” I grunt, frustrated beyond belief. “He’s doin’ this petty shit, but I know it’s only gonna get worse.”

Axel leans up against a nearby support column. “If you want me to go find him, I can bring him right to you.”

A mirthless chuckle escapes me. “No, it’s too risky for the club with this Elias shit going on. I do want him to be found, but when I do, I’m heading out to the desert. I don’t want to be in the city when this goes down.”

Zorro finishes a sip of his beer. “If you want us to help you bury the body, you’ve got two willing volunteers.”
