I light up a fresh cigarette and take a drag, reveling in the moment.

It’s now the first week of September and I finally feel like I’m starting to settle down.

I no longer get anxiety about being here, stuck in one place.

Things with Astra are going pretty well, but her ex is still out on the loose.

Neither me or any of the prospects have noticed anything out of the ordinary.

Still, it doesn’t mean we’re going to not make sure she’s guarded.

She’s at the coffee shop right now with two prospects, and they work in shifts.

Two will go in and the two being relieved will come back to the clubhouse.

Things are far from peaceful, and yet I feel more at ease than I have in ages.

Don’t get me wrong, Astra’s ex is a looming threat, and the shit with the local gangs and lower cartels is only going to get crazier with time.

Just as I take another drag of the cigarette, Amara bursts through the clubhouse’s front door.

Her eyes are wild as she looks around.

Immediately, I lean off the building and get into her view. “You good?”

She shakes her head, “No. All hands on deck. Alejandro needs us to roll out and go to one of his warehouses. It’s been hit and none of his men are responding.”

There’s no question about it, we have to spring to action.

Alejandro is the largest ally we have here in Mexico, so if he needs our help, he’s going to get it.

The color begins to wash away from Amara’s face, “Call the guys at the café. We need them too. I’ll text them the address.”

With a nod from me, Amara disappears back into the clubhouse and I call Astra.

By the fifth ring she answers, “Hey, miss me?”

I smirk, but my tone is serious. “Always, but I need you to let the prospects know they need to leave. I’ll text them the address, but I wanted you to know somethin’ is goin’ on. You stay at the shop, and don’t you dare leave until one of us comes to get you.”

There’s a brief pause from Astra, “Okay,” she murmurs lowly “Is everything okay?”

“With the club, yes, but not with one of our allies. They need our help and we need to go.”

Astra clears her throat, “Understood, just . . . be careful, okay?”

I have more to live for now, so I am going to be extremely careful. “Of course.”

I head in through the clubhouse and walk into the garage, where everyone else is getting their shit together.

Brothers are strapping up, sliding on their helmets, and ready to get on the road.

Amara comes into the garage like a bat out of hell, and everyone’s eyes are pinned on her.

Lashes speaks up, “What do we know?”

Amara’s eyes whip over at her. “Warehouse was hit. Enemy isn’t known at this point in time, but we have to get going. My uncle’s men could be injured.”
