He turned his head at the sound of us walking by, but he knew better than to stare at me too long. We had a facade to keep in place, and it meant we didn't know each other at all. He'd hate when I had to be mean to him if I’d ever be placed on him for detail. His languid body didn't do too much as he allowed himself to relax on the bed, but I knew his body language was just a mirage for people not to know he calculated something else in his mind.

Leaving the sector, the other guard showed me all the hidden places along with the cafeteria before walking me to the nurse’s quarters. That's where I had a lovely surprise inside because I found the man I needed. The little weasel lied back on his bed with a bandage over his eye and a head wrap around it to keep it in place. Draven hadn't been kidding when he said he handled things on his own, but I had other orders to finish the job.

“So this must be the new recruit,” a pretty nurse spoke to me. Before I could answer her, the man beside me stepped up and eyed her like a prize to be won. She enjoyed every second his eyes stayed on her body, telling me the two were having a secret affair by the rings on their hands.

“He sure is,” my trainer replied. Patting me on the back, he leaned close to my ear to whisper something, but I already knew what it would be. “Say, do you mind keeping an eye on this guy for a minute? I just need to ask Megan here something.”

“No problem,” my toothy grin frightened the man a little more. While he believed I was on his side in this battle against crime, I could tell I made him uneasy by the ruggedness of my loftier body. My stay in this place it wouldn't be enjoyable, but I'd be proud to knock out my first assignment on the very first day. Maybe I was the overachiever I made myself out to be.

Lester kept moaning from the bed and asking for more painkillers, but I knew better than to administer anything to him. He didn't look at me, but he knew I was in the room. Creeping over to the table that had the syringes on it, I took note of the painkillers they were having him on while his eye healed, and I noticed some pretty vials below the cabinet. My eyes tracked the room for any cameras, but I knew there wouldn't be any in here because of the HIPPA laws in place that even criminals fell under. They couldn't record due to patient confidentiality. Finding a deadlier dose of something else, I made sure the sizing looked just right in order to do what we needed. I also swiped something else from the fridge that hopefully wouldn’t be noticed. It would help me with Draven’s escape when I could get it to him unnoticed with the cameras everywhere near him.

The drug in my hand for this fool wouldn't necessarily kill someone if you gave the right dose, but with the size of the syringe, Lester would be handled once and for all, silenced for his stupidity. Luckily, the liquid matched the other level as I hurried and swapped the labels for no one to even have a clue of what I did. The nurse would administer the painkiller, but she would be feeding him a heavier dose of pure poison.

Smiling, they were ready as I looked in the mirror against the other wall. That was when Lester turned his head my way. His hands were cuffed to the bed, so he couldn't leave if he wanted to, but soon, his body would begin violently thrashing as he had a seizure from what I was about to have the nurse give him.

The other two finally came back in none the wiser as I stood proudly on the side like I had been there the whole time. Lester finally started bitching out the nurse for his pain, so she grabbed the syringe I staged without even knowing it. She fed it into his IV as he relaxed like the drug hit him that fast. We left the room, and I patted my pocket where a vial hid as the secret to getting Draven out.

“According to her schedule, she should be arriving any minute. Head into the bathroom to not look like you’re waiting around for her to come. I’ll let you know when I see her car pull in.” Costas sat by the entrance near the window to help me watch for Emilia arriving. He wore a fedora with a coat collar situated around his face to hide from people and cameras.

Entering the building, I noticed the locals hustling and bustling like zombies, forgetting their true purpose. Most forgot to live their lives, trying to survive it instead. Not many blinked an eye my way, but I knew I needed to keep my cover when it came to following the woman who radiated pure sunlight. Plus, this city had been known for our dealings with Draven stationed here for most of the year. We’d have to figure that bit out after he escaped because he could no longer be the face for us in this city.

In the bathroom, one other gentleman stood in the vicinity, and he already had his hands in the sink to finish. Walking up to the mirror, I didn’t need to go pee or get stuck in here with my pants down to miss the meet cute I had planned with Emilia. For the first time in a long time, I felt nervous. My hands got clammy the more I thought about this date I had with her. Though, she didn’t know it would be a date I had orchestrated after following her for so long already. Just like she had no idea I used her sleeping form to get me off.

The thoughts of my actions kept begging me to return, but Costas kept reminding me of how risky my behavior escalated to. Originally, I planned on just spying through the window, but she opened the entry point. Costas refused my return and reminded me he had his own methods to keep track of her without getting caught. Like he knew she came to this coffee shop every Friday before she went to work. Greeting everyone with her kindness, she didn’t know how infectious her light was. I did, and it intimated me now. Or maybe that came from recalling the taste of her pussy on my tongue. I’d need a boiling hot coffee to burn the taste away, but I wanted to drink from her forever.

Washing my hands, I needed to get a grip. I hadn’t felt like this since Draven and I snuck out to share our first date. It was only to the back alley behind my family’s manor in Italy, but I’d never forget the butterflies his first kiss gave me. He had been the one to initiate it, but my knees were the ones that buckled, causing me to fall into him even more. We were only sixteen then.

Some might say we were curious, but we found our love within that curiosity. By exploring the unknown, we found the home we each longed for. The fact that this woman made me feel that way now only told me my rooted love could grow for her too.

“She’s pulling in. Count to thirty and leave.” The secret com in my ear went off, startling me out of my fixated thoughts.

Stepping back, I shook out my hands and breathed out each number. No one would ever know how scared my heart made me feel, and I’d hide it the moment I left this tiny bathroom. Glancing at the two stalls and three urinals, I noticed the rust collecting around all the metals. This little coffee shop didn’t have much to it, but the people inside made it feel alive.

Drying my hands, I finally drew the courage to leave and find my place in the long line for her to wind up perfectly behind me. Some would call this stalking, but I called it forcing fate. Taking my place, my eyes hurried to scan to see her nearing the entrance right before I turned around and gave her my back like the universe placed me in this location to be kismet.

When the door opened, the cool air drifted her honeysuckle scent in my direction. Goosebumps lined the back of my neck, spurring my soul to recognize how right this idea was. Emilia fit us whether she knew it or not. Waiting a for few people to leave the line, I wanted the moment not to be rushed. Luckily, before I’d have to confess my nervousness, a man wanted access through the line to get to the rest room on the other side. This forced me to step back right into her, turning naturally to apologize for my rudeness.

“I’m so sorry!” I rushed before letting my eyes act like they were caught off guard by her presence. “Emilia?”

“Antonio?” Her surprise showed her genuine nature.

“What are you doing here?” I asked her, loving the smile I brought to her face. This softness swept over her features, making her even more picturesque.

“Oh, I come here on Fridays because my work meetings don’t start for another hour.” Patting her messenger bag, I noticed how light it sounded at her touch. “I like to use it to catch up on my reading while I drink some tea. What are you doing here?”

“I had a meeting on this side of town today, and I forgot to stop by my normal place for coffee in my rush to be on time.” Looking at my watch, I chuckled. “So I stopped here now that my meeting is done.”

“Wow, what a coincidence. I’m glad your travels brought you this way because I haven’t seen you by the river since that day.”

“Yeah, I’ve had a full schedule, but I’ve been meaning to head that way again. Sometimes, life just gets so crazy, it’s hard to fit everything in, if you know what I mean.”

“Oh, I do,” she laughed out. I knew she did understand because I watched how little she slept after running herself ragged all day. Just when I went to say something else, her phone began to ring. She looked at the name and then back at me. “Excuse me for just a second? It’s my dad.”

Ushering her to take it, I turned around to give her some privacy. She appreciated my willingness to let her have time with her dad. Deep within, I wanted to stomp my foot like a little boy for his intrusion. My perfectly timed execution, and her dad calls. Luckily, I’d only heard great things about the good doctor, so he had my respect for now.
