Her usual happy charm didn't exist, and it made me watch her closer. She felt sad, dejected. I'd have to talk to the others when I came back because I didn't know if Millie would be cut out for staying if she felt like this. Unlike her, Kasey had been diving right into the lap of luxury. Coming as the best friend had its perks, and she had been living it all up. Not that I could blame her for it. My desires would come out too if they were freely able to.

Though, such things wouldn't be allowed. If they were, Millie would be mine too. No man could watch a woman like her without wanting her for himself, but I respected Tony and Draven enough not to chase her. Still, I couldn't help but feel her sadness seeping into my desperate soul as she followed her friend down the aisle of clothes. Kasey kept piling more into her arms to try on, but Millie didn't touch a thing, wandering aimlessly behind her friend. Her feet barely lifted as she idled and waited for Kasey to be done.

Staying near the entrance, I had to make sure no threat entered the building. With the power the families had, our town cars always placed us under a spotlight, and today would make no exception. The women didn't need to know to keep their calm, but I did. Too many already knew Draven returned. The schemes and plotting for his true death would begin like they had before his departure.

"Oh, look at this little number!" Kasey held up a daring dress that had a plunging neckline. Her body would look great in it with the rack she had, but my eyes skimmed over Millie's chest, wishing I could see her subtle breasts peeking mildly to tease and torment a man. Luckily, my sunglasses hid my actions to the average eye.

Millie finally snapped out of her reverie to battle her friend into some sense. It felt right to see because Kasey had been too onboard with being kidnapped. "Kasey, what are you doing? This dress is more than my rent!"

"It's more than both of our rents combined," Kasey snickered her reply. "But to answer your first question, I'm celebrating this vacation, Mills. For the first time in over a decade, I'm not breaking my back to earn a penny."

"Do you understand who took us?" Millie looked around before hissing her reply. She even glimpsed my way.

"Sweetie, we're under the protection of the largest mafia families known throughout Europe. Hell, they're even in the states! And you somehow managed to get both to fall in love with you."

"They're not in love with me." Millie blushed and folded her arms in discomfort.

"Babe, I love you more than life itself, but those men have been tripping over their shadows to make sure you're okay. They talk constantly about you and hoping you'll choose to stay. And as the bestie, I reserve the right to say I hope you do too."

"But why?" Millie couldn't wrap her head around this life.

Kasey swung the delicate fabric in her friend's face. "Um, hello! They gave us their card to buy whatever we want for our wardrobes, their chefs prepare the most delicious foods I've ever tasted—you'll find out tonight—and I get to drink all the wine while lounging in a giant fucking pool! Let me have this vacation before you force me back into reality. A few days isn't enough to bask in this new glory, Mills."

"It feels hurtful to spend someone else's money when I know I can never pay them back."

"So pay them with your vagina." Kasey waved her off before pulling another revealing dress off the rack.

Millie breathed in a snort of surprise. "Kasey!"

"What? You need a good lay, and those boys would fulfill it." She fanned herself. "If they're anything like the few guards I've horizontally tangoed with, god damn, you're about to worship me for pushing you into bliss."

"What about Tim?" Millie rubbed the outsides of her arms.

"You mean the man who ran out on you and left you to be kidnapped? From what I heard, you ended it then." She gave a devious look to her friend before flitting her eyes my way. Millie turned and remembered who took her before dropping her gaze in fear of me. My heart plummeted because I knew a woman like her could never love a tormented soul like me. She needed more than I could offer her, and I couldn't stomach her rejecting the true me, the one covered head to toe in scars, proving my devotion to this family and to Mario for his training.

"Kasey, I can't jump into the bed of a stranger that easily."

"Stranger? Honey, they've been secretly dating you this whole time. Trust me, they were numbering how many times they got to see you, counting each toward your courtship with them. They're way past three, so spread those pretty legs and let those sexy men make them quake. Remember what it's like to have a man want to please you, Mills."

Feeling uncomfortable, she shifted where she should. The woman felt ugly even though she was far from it. "I'm not you, Kase."

"No, you're the perfect version of you, Mills. Now, I'm going to point out some shit, and you're going to think it over. When was the last time Tim did anything sweet to benefit you?"

She opened her mouth like she had something, but her lips closed as she thought deeper on the subject. After a minute, she released her arms to dangle at her sides. "I can't think of one."

"So now tell me something Draven and Tony have done, aside from kidnapping you because that in itself is serious devotion."

Millie finally let her hands touch the fabric of a lovely shirt on the rack across from the one Kasey dug through. "They offered to buy these clothes."

"What else?"

"They listened when I said I couldn't live without you and Whispers."

"And?" Kasey's grin only grew.

"I can't prove it, but now that I know they've been watching me, I found forty dollars in my bag after a coffee date with Antonio."
