"Depends." Kasey shrugged and wiped her eyes clean. "If you're being paid to fuck someone, it's a great way to dull the senses. If you want to feel everything your lover is doing, it sucks. A little buzz can help inhibitions, though."

"Huh. I've always wondered, but I've been too scared to feel that out of control." Millie rubbed the outsides of her arms.

"With the right man, you won't have that fear. You'll know that even if you have drunk sex, they'll take care of you."

Millie laid her head on Kasey's shoulder. "I'm glad I have that feeling with you too. You're the only person I've ever been drunk with."

"Same for the safe thing, but I get drunk a lot," Kasey cantered. "Remember the first time we ever drank in high school?"

Millie whined. "And my dad could tell but he kept trying to make us prove we weren't."

"We kept doing as he asked to verify our innocence, but it only damned us more." Kasey belted her loud laugh.

Clearing my throat, I felt now was the best time to announce myself. When they turned to me, they raised their bottles at the same time in excitement. "Costas!"

"Snuck away, did ya?" I crossed my arms to act like they were in trouble. Sure enough, Millie even had a red ring around her lips from letting the mouth of the bottle suction too often around to gain that rosy color. She looked cute as fuck, but I'd keep my lips sealed.

"She did it!" Millie rushed to point a finger at Kasey. Kasey's gasp had Millie tipping in the other direction, landing on her face in the dirt. She didn't drink much, so three bottles sang through her veins. Kasey spanked her best friend playfully because Millie was face down.

"Come on you two, let's go get some food in your stomachs before I have to call the family doctor." Heading toward them, Kasey picked herself up and left Millie for me to handle as she stumbled out of the cellar. Planning to toss Millie over my shoulder, she didn't let me lift her that high, wrapping her legs around my waist. Her arms circled my neck as she nuzzled into it with her face.

Standing completely still, no one had ever felt so safe to relax this much in my hold. Part of me began to believe it had to be the alcohol allowing her to ease this much in my grasp. She breathed her wine breath near my face for me to smell the amount on her lips. "Kasey told me you didn't kill Tim because you worried about it making me upset."

"Did she?" I tried not to smirk.

Kissing my cheek lightly, she yawned. "Thank you, because I wouldn't have been able to handle it."

"I know, Millie."

"You're sweeter than you let people see you for."

I began walking up the stairs, unsure how I felt about her choice of words. "A man like me isn't made of sweetness."

"Oh, sure you are. You're like the Tootsie Pop commercials. You just don't know how many licks it would take to get to that gooey center."

"Says a woman who has never seen my cruelty."

"Were they bad men? The ones you hurt?"

I had to think about her words. "I guess so."

"Have you hurt a woman or child?"

"No." My brows pulled together.

"Then see? A sweet man."

"You think too highly of people," I returned.

"I see the worst almost daily with what I do for work. True cruel men, Costas. The ones who hurt children for personal pleasure or to feel superior. You are not them."

"Even though it aroused me to capture you?" The question slipped out without much thought.

She lifted the corner of her mouth as she closed her eyes. "That just tells me you're into primal play. That can be a thing with consent, you know? Kasey told me about a guy who paid for her to run naked in the woods for him to hunt and fuck her. It sounded fun, but I know I wouldn't be brave enough to run naked through the woods."

"Why don't you just rest, Millie? I'll take you to bed while you sleep this off before you overshare even more."

"Mhmm, good plan." She cozied herself against me.
