“So, what you’re saying is I beat Jimmy?”

“Yes, you definitely won.”

I won a lot more than, sweetheart. And I have a whole lot more wins to give you.

“And you don’t mind living on the East Coast? That’s where the Boston Bears affiliate teams are located.”

“I don’t care where we’ll live as long as we’re together.”

I fully relax as I grab her hand. “Then come on. We have a wedding to plan. Because I want our happily ever after to start now.”

Epilogue

DALTON

Six Months Later

“You doing okay?”Marty asks.

I turn to my best man and smirk while pinning the boutonnière in place. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

He shakes his head. “Glad to see your cockiness is still intact.”

But I know he’s kidding. And I know I’m not fooling him. I’m fucking terrified. But it’s not about getting married—that’s the easy part. I’m more worried about Cassie waking up and running away. How this sweet innocent girl wants to marry me still blows my mind.

“His cockiness is the one thing you can count on never changing,” Garret speaks up.

“Fuck off,” I say, straightening my jacket. Garret laughs. My phone pings a text before he can retort.

Steve: Congratulations. Wish I could celebrate with you.

A pang of remorse pinches my gut. Steve’s the only family member I would want here, but his probation officer denied his request even though he’s been out for a year and four months. It sucks, but I get it. Cassie offered to change the venue to North Carolina, but I shot that idea down. I don’t need my brother around to get married. I just need her. This wedding is more for her benefit than mine. I won’t deny her the dream of getting married in her father’s church. I’m good as long as we’re together.

Me: I’ll ship you some cake.

Or, in our case, chocolate cupcakes. Cassie may have wanted a small, traditional wedding, but that’s where the tradition stops.

“The crew is here.” Garret pops up and heads to the door.

Noah, Braxton, and their girlfriends file into the room a moment later.

Marty stands with his hands in his tux pants. He’s trying to act casual, but I know he’s in awe at my friends. Garret didn’t get called up this year, but Noah and Braxton did.

Shannon wears a huge smile as she makes her way to me. When she reaches me, she throws her arms around me and hugs tightly. “It’s your big day!”

“How’d your interview go?” I ask.

“This is your big day, not mine.” Shannon had a job interview withValvemor, an upcoming trendy fashion company. They reached out to her this summer when she was interning abroad.

“That doesn’t matter. I still want to know.”

“I got it,” she squeals.

“I’m so happy for you. I bet Noah’s relieved.”

“I am.” Noah approaches and shoots Shannon an appreciative glance. “But we would’ve been good either way. It’s just a lot easier when you’re in the same country.”

I laugh and give Noah a man-hug. “True that. Hey, man. Good seeing you. Glad you could make it.”
