“Yeah, but the other guy stole it from the first guy to begin with so he’s just taking it back,” I whisper back, my arm around her shoulder.

“I see.” She nuzzles into me. “I think.”

We finish the movie and head to bed, Sienna following me up the stairs. “Do you mind if I sleep with you tonight?” she asks, fiddling with the ring on her index finger.

I nod and she follows me into the bedroom, starting to undress. “I was hoping that tomorrow you and Caleb could spend the morning with me while Dominic is at the shop,” she says. “I have some interviews and then I want to go to Walmart.”

“We can do that,” I tell her, stripping down to my boxers and throwing my clothes into the hamper. “What time do you need to be up in the morning?”

“Early,” she grumbles. “Miss Antoinette wouldn’t grant me an interview unless I came before she had to leave for work in the morning and since she’s on first shift at the hospital, I have to be there by five thirty.”

“AM?” I ask, incredulous. She nods.

“Yup.”

“Good luck getting Caleb up that early,” I joke.

“Oh my God, yes. He’s a total night owl,” Sienna agrees. “He doesn’t get into bed some nights before two in the morning.”

“He was worse in high school,” I tell her as I climb into bed. “He would stay up all night playing video games some nights. We had to bribe him to go to sleep sometimes.”

“I can’t stay up all night anymore,” Sienna says, shaking her head. “I get so tired by like, midnight.”

She slips into bed next to me and we turn to face each other. “I hope he’s not like that when we have kids,” she jokes.

My eyes widen for a moment, heart racing. Is she serious or is she just joking around? Having a future with Sienna seems way too good to be true, and I don’t want to get my hopes up so I try to play it cool.

“He’ll be the fun dad, teaching them how to play video games until the wee hours of the morning,” I joke back. “Dom will be the one to give the kids adventures. I’ll probably be the boring dad who helps with homework.”

“You’re not boring,” Sienna protests, punctuated with a yawn. “You’d be a good dad. You’d probably teach them how to sneak out, but you’d also make sure they were loved and cared for.”

My heart is pounding in my ears now, and I open my mouth to say something but before I can, I realize Sienna has fallen asleep.

I shake my head and close my eyes.

The next morning, when I wake up, Sienna is already awake. I hear her downstairs making coffee, so I head down into the kitchen and wrap my arms around her from behind, pulling her to my chest. “Morning, Princess.” She looks adorable wearing one of my T-shirts and a pair of pajama shorts. The aroma of coffee fills the kitchen and I inhale deeply.

“Good morning,” she says, a cheerful lilt to her voice.

“You should have woken me,” I chide.

“We had a long day yesterday,” she says. “I didn’t want to wake you or Caleb. I ended up interviewing Miss Antoinette by myself and came straight home.”

“Still. I don’t like you out there by yourself. We have to figure out what to do about the Serpents, so until they’ve been dealt with, just let us go with you next time.”

“Fine,” Sienna says, turning to face me. “You’re ridiculous you know that?”

Just as I lean down to kiss her, Caleb comes into the kitchen looking bleary-eyed and sleep-tousled. “Morning,” he says, squinting at us. “I smelled coffee.”

“I was going to ask you and Bas to come with me to an interview this morning, but I decided not to wake you,” Sienna explains. “I made coffee when I came back.”

“Aw, you should have woken me up,” Caleb protests with a yawn, rubbing his eyes. “I like helping you with your work,” he adds, casting a sleepy grin at Sienna.

“Next time,” Sienna promises, standing on her tiptoes to cup his cheeks and give him a soft kiss. “I’ll take my big, scary guard dogs with me next time.”

“Woof,” I bark, earning a laugh from Sienna. She pats the top of my head.

“Good boy,” she says. I chuckle and pretend to scratch my ear while shaking my leg, and soon all three of us are laughing.
