"He is looking at life behind bars." Or life under the ground because I was not planning to let him be on the same hemisphere with Rita ever again. "I don't want to talk about that. I want to talk about us."

"I'm sorry for walking out like that. I should have been more considerate of Zach and London. I'm not sorry for slapping you, though. What was in your head? What were you thinking to see me and tell me I'm your fucking wife?"

For the first time since I started this mess, I knew what I was thinking; I had the answer that I wasn't able to give to myself until now.

"My heart was calling for you." Shouting with hunger. "You looked up at me with your infinite onyx eyes and asked me if I was your husband. I wasn't, but I knew, Rita, I knew I should be. It's as simple as that."

Rita opened her mouth a couple of times before speaking.

"Romantic. Weird and still wrong, but I can't lie and say it doesn't touch me. I've never known romance, you know, a man to do something to seduce me...It wasn't like that for me. And you did so much. I was thinking that you're the perfect husband, showing your wife so much love and appreciation, and you are, but knowing you did all of that for a stranger? You did so much to make me feel loved and safe, and it makes things so much more amazing."

"But still a little bit weird?"

"Very weird. I think you kidnapped me."

"Yeah, I think I did." Not proud, but not sorry either. I would do it again and again, a thousand times if needed. "Love, I want you in my life. No, actually, there's no life without you. Rita, I never lied. I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life making you feel safe and loved. My daughter can't go to sleep if you're not there and going to our bedroom without you the other night felt like walking in a freezer. I'm willing to do everything for you to grant me forgiveness and give me one chance to make it right."

The most extraordinary thing happened; she leaned over and pulled me into a kiss. When our lips met and matched, a shiver went through my body. It was more than a kiss, a physical act of love. It was an experience. Rita was breathing life and hope into me, like she did the first time I pushed her into my life.

"Your forgiveness is granted and so is the chance. I love you. I love everything about you; there so much goodness and kindness and sexiness in you, it's still hard to comprehend I have you."

She had me a long time ago. I'm owned. This time, when Zach says I'm whipped, he wouldn’t be talking bullshit.

"I want to make it right this time, take you on a few dates, we can find an apartment for you, or a hotel. We can take it slow."

"Slow? What the fuck, no! You want us to date?" Judging by the look on her face, I was close to another spanking.

"Well, I thought you might want to take your time to know me."

"I know you better than you know yourself. I know you slightly snore. I know how you like your gross herbal tea that smells like grass. I know how you like to organize your shirts. I know how that vein on your neck is showing when you're ready to orgasm. I want what we had. Waking up to you, go down to the kitchen and get ready for Chelsea. Don't...you can't take that away from me. I am not moving, end of story."

End of story? What were we even fighting about?

"Love, I would love nothing more than to have you by my side every moment till the day I die. I want us to go home."

"Good." I was rewarded with another fiery kiss. "And you should do something about my name."

Music. Fucking music to my ears. I couldn’t help but smile widely.

"What about it?"

"Yours suits me better."

She suited me better. No name would ever have a nicer ring to it than Rita Sullivan. With this in mind, I took her into a sensual tango, kissing her cheeks and the curve of her neck.

I found her.

She was here.

She was staying.

Forever.

"Look at you, big boy, finally walking. I can't believe it took you a month to recover from a little bullet." Zach was sitting on my back patio sipping a cold one and smiling like an idiot.

"What are you talking about? I was always able to walk. I literally walked out of the hospital."

"You had a limp, like a pussy."
