“Hello?”

“I need a favor.”

“You really need to work on your phone manners, boy.” He joked. “What can I do for you? Are you in trouble?”

“Nah, I’m good. Just leaving The Mask.”

“Already?”

“Yes. Why aren’t you here?” Rarely any business happened without Roman’s seal of approval. He was my father’s consigliere after all.

“Since Romina just came home, I decided to stay out of this one.”

“I see. Can you find someone for me?”

“Sure. What do you know?”

“Blonde, beautiful woman, blue eyes, not very tall.”

“Name?”

“No idea, but if you check the security cameras at The Mask, you’ll see her going into the wardrobe room with me and getting out half an hour later.”

There was a pause and then I heard Roman laughing.

“Did you called me in the middle of the night to help you chase a skirt.”

“Can you help me or not?”

“Sure. Man, you’re definitely Gino’s son.”

Chapter 3

I sat in front of the vanity table and brushed my hair mechanically. This corner of the house, in the far end of my bedroom, was the only place that I could call mine. When we came from Moscow, eight months ago, I wasn’t allowed to pick anything for the house. After all it wasn’t mine. The only thing Alexei let me buy was this vanity table for my makeup and perfumes. When I was sitting here, I felt a little more like myself again.

I might have signed my death warrant tonight. I’ve strayed.

It was impossible for me to make sense of my reactions. That man from the club, he came out of nowhere, like a wave in a stormy sea and pulled me to the bottom. The moment I looked into his black eyes; I was enslaved to a carnal desire that was beyond everything I believed it was possible to feel.

Gazing back at my reflection, I started thinking that maybe I imagined everything, that I didn’t just give myself to an unknown man, but I could smell him on me. I felt alive and still turned on, even if he made me crash into orgasms twice.

It really happened! How easily that fleeting moment of passion could have ended in a blood bath.

I had to let it go and never think about it. What happened in that wardrobe will have to be a secret I take with me to my grave, but every time I closed my eyes, I saw him on the back of my eyelids. I could see that need in his eyes and remembered that moment when he made me feel like the woman I once was. It was ironic that I gave myself to a man, begged him to take me, then bowed down at his mercy, but I felt so free and powerful.

A knock on the door made me jump in the chair, and I looked over my shoulder to see Katja in the door looking at me with compassion on her face. She was a good girl; she could see through the shit around us and really tried to make my life easier to live. Katja was the closest thing I had to a friend, and at twenty-two, she was only six years younger than me.

“Ludmi, maybe you should go downstairs.”

“Why?”

“Alexei is sleeping on the living room floor.”

Of course. He was shitfaced after gulping vodka like it was spring water all night. He got so drunk tonight. The people we met couldn’t talk to him. Tonight was yet another chance for Alexei Popov to make a fool of himself. I often wandered what would have happened if he didn’t have millions of rubles to fall back on? Someone would have probably offed him a long time ago.

Wrapped in my satin robe, that was covering me from neck to toe, I went downstairs to find him face down on the oriental carpet, still gripping a bottle of Smirnoff. Disgusting. I gripped his shoulder and shook him, but all I got back was a growl.

“Alexei, wake up.”
