Ignoring Jamie and the undeniable spark between us was easier said than done. As much as I tried to focus on everyone else and the good time they seemed to be having, my attention kept straying back to him.

Letting out a deep gusty breath, I tried to shake off my consuming thoughts about Jamie.

“Alright, guys. Who's ready to hit the waves?” I called out as I led the group down the shoreline. The enthusiasm in my voice wasn’t forced because I was excited about our windsurfing session. I loved the water and the way the wind caressed my skin as I glided on the waves.

Lincoln grinned. “Lead the way, Char. We’re ready for some action.”

Of course Lincoln was eager. The major thing that we had in common was our love for sports and the outdoors.

Michael gazed out at the water as we stopped beside the colorful sails and sleek boards that were lined out. The waves were a tad rougher today, creating a rhythmic crash against the shore. “I’ve never done this before…”

“Not to worry, Mike. Under Charlotte’s expert guidance, we’ll be fine.” Alex hit me with his charming smile.

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes while Lincoln gave him a seething look. Alex was a shameless flirt, but I appreciated the vote of confidence. Lincoln and his friends were helping me out a lot.

My supervisor took notice of the fact that I was requested as their outdoor guide again. He gave me a pat on the shoulder and said, “The guests seem to enjoy themselves with you, Charlotte. Good job.”

I didn’t bother mentioning that this particular group chose me because of my history with Lincoln. After just seven months of working here, I was still the rookie trying to make a name for myself. I noticed that Josh, my coworker, was a little sour over the extra attention I’d gotten… and the hefty tips.

“Alex is right,” I said to Michael. “Don’t worry, we’ll start with the basics.”

I began with selecting a board and sail for each of them and then I adjusted the rigging to suit each one.

As we waded into shallow water, I asked, “You’re sure you’re all strong swimmers?”

“We are, Charlotte. You don’t have to worry about us,” Spencer said.

Still, I’d keep a close eye. Jamie had yet to speak… of course. I’d gathered that he wasn’t much of a talker. Yet, yesterday, he was about to tell me something he didn’t share with many others. I just knew it.

“Hey, Charlotte. It’s pretty early,” Lincoln said. “What do you suggest we do after this?”

I considered it. It seemed they were hellbent on staying outside and engaging in ?

sports and other activities for as long as they were here. These were the types of guests I loved. The other type spent all day inside, luxuriating in room service and spa treatments… boring.

“How do you guys feel about zip lining or bungee jumping? I could take you?—”

“Hell, no,” Jamie said.

Ah. He speaks. And each time he did, my attention zeroed in on him and everyone else faded. I really needed to get a grip.

“I mean something that all of us can do,” Lincoln added.

My gaze flickered between Jamie and Lincoln as I wondered what Jamie had against zip lining. “Okay…” I smirked. “Maybe you guys should head back to the hotel and hit the spa. That sounds more like Jamie’s speed.”

The dig earned me a glare from him while his friends all visibly struggled to hold back laughter.

There was a suspicious twitch to Jamie’s lips when he grumbled, “Hilarious, Charlotte,” that told me he didn’t mind all that much that I teased him. He’d been amused when I gave him shit about his name yesterday. I wondered what other nuances there were to Jamie’s personality because I was learning that he wasn’t serious all the time.

I grinned at him and the smile he tried to hold back threatened to emerge. Lincoln’s gaze swiveled between us, and he cleared his throat. That was when I realized that Jamie and I were still staring at each other. Our eyes skated away from each other fast.

“We’ll stick to land or water activities, Charlotte,” Lincoln said.

Jamie, who had no trace of his earlier amusement on his face, shook his head. “No, if you guys want to zip line or risk your necks dangling in the air from a rope, that’s fine. I’ll just sit those activities out. Don’t let me ruin your fun.”

“But this trip is for you,” Spencer pointed out.

“Yeah, we’re not doing anything without you,” Michael interjected.
