We all stared at him blankly, waiting for more.

He huffed. “Jesus, you’re all such rigid workaholics. You don’t even get excited at the mention of a tropical vacation.”

I snorted. He had a point. Plenty of people would squeal with delight at the sound of Hawaii and a resort.

“I only have one week,” Michael said. “I have to get back to work and my kid.”

Lincoln put his drink down. “Relax. If we leave tomorrow, we’ll have the entire seven days we had planned at the resort. You’ll be back on time.”

That had Michael convinced. He shrugged. “Fine. Hawaii… I’m in.”

“But why a resort?” Alex asked. His furrowed eyebrows said he didn’t think a resort would be as much fun as clubs and naked dancing ladies.

Spencer sighed. “I’m sure they have plenty of breast bars in Hawaii, Alex, and I like the idea of somewhere tropical.”

“Tittie bars,” Alex corrected with a scoff. He then threw his hands up. “If that’s what everyone wants. Jamie…?” Alex eyed me with hope in his eyes.

I hated that I was about to burst his bubble and choose a resort over falling out of clubs shitfaced. A tropical vacation sounded nice. When was the last time I flew to an exotic location to unwind? “I like Linc’s idea.”

Lincoln fist-pumped the air. “Awesome. I already have a private jet lined up. I knew you guys would agree. We can use this evening to get anything we didn’t bring for a beach getaway.”

“Fine. I guess we can all do with that sort of vacation,” Alex grumbled as he poured himself another drink.

“Full disclosure. I have an ulterior motive for Hawaii,” Lincoln announced.

All eyes landed on him again.

“Jamie, I know it’s supposed to be your birthday trip, but I need to go to Pacific Paradise Resort.”

“It had better not be for work,” Spencer warned. “If you’re chasing some spoiled athlete all the way to?—”

“It’s not work.” Lincoln rubbed his nape. “It’s about a woman.”

“Well, now Hawaii has the potential to be interesting,” Alex said.

“Spill,” I demanded, watching Lincoln through narrowed eyes. He wasn’t one to chase women. Back in college, he’d been laser-focused on his studies and after that, his football career. While his teammates entertained groupies, he never did.

Lincoln threw back the rest of his drink and then swiveled his barstool around to face us. His sheepish expression made me raise my eyebrows. “Do you guys remember me mentioning someone named Charlotte back in the day?”

I nodded. “Yeah, a couple of years into your football career.” We’d never met the mysterious Charlotte though, and it seemed his relationship with her didn’t last that long.

“Well, I’ve been thinking…” Lincoln stared into his empty glass. “What if she’s the one?”

My jaw practically touched the oriental run I had in front of the sofa. I’d never heard Lincoln sound like that. I’d never heard any of the guys sound like that… and certainly not me.

Alex’s laughter boomed and circulated the room. When he saw that Lincoln didn’t share in his amusement, the sound faded and so did his smile. “Shit, you’re serious.”

“I am.” Lincoln crossed his arms over his chest as if he felt the need to defend himself. “I’m not getting any younger. A few weeks ago, I thought of Charlotte and how easy being with her was. We never got the chance to fully explore things between us. Then she popped up on my social media and I reached out to her.” He shrugged. “She said she works at Pacific Paradise Resort. I figured I could…”

I, along with the others, gawked at Lincoln. Was that a tinge of pink I saw in his cheeks? Perhaps I wasn’t the only one going through something emotional.

“Rekindle your romance?” Spencer finished. He already had a light of interest in his eyes. He was all about exploring relationships and love, and he explored plenty… too damn much. I didn’t know what it was about women and musicians. They flocked to him in droves.

“I don’t see why not…” Lincoln shrugged, still seemingly embarrassed.

Alex let out a loud snort. “Cute story, but there is no such thing as the one.”

“I agree with Casanova there,” Michael said. “The whole idea of there being one person made for you is just…” He sighed heavily. “True love and all that is a myth, man.”
