"Maybe," I said, snuggling into him. "I didn't mean to be a bitch."

"Rav, I've known you too long. A bitch is one thing I've never thought you were," he explained.

"You two want to get a room or should we go in there?" Eli asked as he pointed to the door. “I have a feeling these ghosts aren’t the patient type.”

Jayce rolled his eyes but didn't move away from me.

"Let's do this," I agreed.

Lucien looked at us one last time before twisting the handle. This time with no menacing laugh.

When he pushed it open my heart slammed in my chest and I stared around with wild eyes. It wasn’t empty like we’d hoped.

The room was full of children playing, giggles filling my ears, making it impossible to hear the guys. How could we not hear it outside of the room?

"There are just kids here right now," I explained as I scanned the room for the blonde that Lucien mentioned.

“Do they look evil?” Eli hissed quietly. The kids didn’t react to his words and I was glad they couldn’t hear.

“They’re playing and seem happy. Just normal children.” I choked back the tears as I looked around the large playroom. "What happened here?"

"Hopefully, Kassie will give us the info tonight when we meet up with her," Lucien said before he moved further into the room.

"Eli, Jayce, I think it's best you two stay here," I half order. "Or enter at your own risk."

Eli leans on the doorframe and eyes the ground with a grimace. "I've seen the floors here. I'm good out in the hall."

My eyes flickered toward Jayce.

"I'll stay close by him. Never know when he'll need a pillow," he promised with a smirk.

I gave them both a nod as I took the hand that Lucien held out for me. I knew that Eli hated to miss the search, but his power was the most unpredictable of all of ours.

If he didn't fall like a sack of potatoes with every memory he would've charged in head first. Jayce, on the other hand, would have stepped in cautiously but he would have gone.

At one point, he was a skeptic. Now there was no denying it. We’d been through too much… seen too much.

"You're going to have to tell me what you see," Lucien reminded me. "I don't want to walk through anyone. That was a pet peeve of mine."

I almost wanted to laugh at that but he was dead serious.

"We’re clear," I told him, taking the lead. "There are so many kids here. Not that I didn't believe you. I've just never seen so many in one place. Did you see more than the one blonde? I see a few with ringlets."

"Green eyes, I think she's in a pink dress. I didn't really pay attention to that. I was pulled back before I got a better look," he admitted.

Slowly, I scanned the room, finally landing on her. She was in the back corner, swinging her legs as she sat on a bench, a smirk on her lips. Her eyes were locked right on us.

Does she know that I can see her?

There was something different about her… off. She wasn’t just a child, nor was she like the rest.

"She's over here," I said to Lucien and pulled him with me as I approached.

We walked past all of the others. They were still playing, not even giving us a second thought. I wasn’t even sure if they saw us.

I stopped short and smiled at her, "Hello, I'm Raven and this is Lucien. What's your name?"

"Hazel," she whispered. Her green eyes were unsettling and the way she spoke had the hair on the back of my neck rising.
