"Will you stay here?" I asked Grace. "I need to check on my other friends."

She gave me a little nod, "I'll stay here."

Her eyes followed me as I walked back to Jayce.

"Let's check on Eli and Lucien," I said as I put my hand in his. He clung to me like a lifeline but I didn’t pull away. This time I needed the reassurance, too.

"What did she say?" he whispered as we power walked back the way we came.

"That you and the guys aren't safe here. That Lucy, who I think might be that serial killer you found, will collect you and keep you," I said in a hushed tone. The last thing I wanted was to alert this Lucy that they were here.

"Well, there is no way that we are gonna let you go on your own," Jayce said, as if that were the end of the conversation.

"Let me?" I questioned, though I had little fight in my voice. That I would reserve for later.

"You know that is not what I meant," he started but I held up a hand.

"I know what you meant, but we were hired to do a job and I will not sacrifice any of you," I reminded him.

"Well, there’s no way that I can lose any of you either,” he countered. “That means sticking together.”

“We need to find what is tying her here and burn it. That’s the only way anyone will be free. This is no longer about Kassie and what she will do with this place. We can't leave this soul on the earth to torture people," I said, ignoring his comment.

He didn’t argue again until we were standing in front of Lucien and Eli.

"You two need to tell Raven, no," Jayce growled, frustrated at my stubbornness. Or maybe he just knew I was right.

"Why?" Eli blinked as if he just woke up.

"She wants to take on the spirit herself," he told them.

His words had Eli on his feet in seconds.

"What?"

"Grace told me that Lucy collects men, just like in the papers. I'm not going to put you in harm’s way. I'm a big girl. I can do this," I explained in a rush as I paced back and forth, hands flying as I spoke. “I get that you want to protect me, but we can’t end this if she’s hellbent on snatching you up. That and everything will be much more dangerous.

"So to save us, you want to go into the dark, creepy rooms all alone. And you don't see anything wrong with that?" Lucien questioned in a dry voice.

"Protecting the ones I love from a man-eating psycho isn't okay anymore?" I shot back. “You don’t have to like it, but we do need to do it.”

"Not by yourself! That is not okay, ever," Eli said, pulling me close.

"Lucy has to go. How are we going to make that happen without risking you three?" I asked him.

"We’ll figure it out," Lucien promised.

"I have to go back to Grace. I promised her I would come back," I said, my frustration rising by the second.

"Who's Grace?" Eli asked as he glanced down the hallway.

"I think she's the little blonde that took Lucien into the living area. She is the one that warned me about Lucy," I explained.

"Maybe Lucien should go with you. Between him and Grace, hopefully someone can lead us to where the relic is that’s tying Lucy to this realm?"

Raven

“We all go, or none of us go,” Lucien challenged. It wasn’t often that we fought but I could feel one coming on now.
