“She won’t take me to Lucy’s room if you’re with me. She was trying to save you,” I argued.

“Or she’s luring you in,” he bit back. “No, Raven. This is not how this relationship works. We’re all in or we’re all out. One team, one unit.”

He was right. It was more dangerous to be on my own especially if it ended up being a trap. But his abilities were new and fairly unreliable. If he couldn't lead us in, then it was back to my idea.

“If you can find the room without her, then we can go in,” I relented. All three of my boyfriends sagged in relief.

“Come on, let’s hurry before it hits me again,” Eli said. But that just reminded me that he had a vision.

“Wait, no. What did you see?”

He shuddered and turned shadowed eyes on me. “The last moments of one of her victims. She dated this one for a few weeks before she took him on a camping trip. She was calling out to him but I couldn't make out the name she used. I was in his body as he chuckled to himself and followed her, playing along. He thought it was a joke or something until she lured him into a cave.”

“Oh god,” I breathed out.

“Yeah, let’s just say it was bloody. She hit his head with a rock to knock him out and she staged him in the cave. I usually don’t see that much but she was humming to herself as she cut into him. She’s unhinged in ways I’ve never seen before.”

“We’ve got supernatural protection,” Jayce said, adjusting his protective bracelet.

“In and out. Faster than we’ve ever done this before. If she attacks us, Raven, you have to find it and burn it. It’ll be the only way to fight back,” Lucien said as he dug into his pocket and handed three vials to us, keeping one for himself.

“Holy water?” I asked, holding it up to see it was clear.

“Yes, it’ll be a last ditch effort to save ourselves,” he said solemnly. “Now follow me.”

He closed his eyes for a few beats before he was taking off down the hall. He didn’t go into a trance this time, he kept his wits. Desperation clearly had taught him how to master it to some extent.

Soon we were back in the hallway Grace was waiting in. As we passed, I stuck my head in. She was still waiting by the window.

“I’m sorry, but we’re trying it our way first. We will save you,” I promised her. Her eyes widened and she wrung her hands nervously.

“What if…?” she trailed off, not finishing the question.

“We’ve got weapons that will help,” I said, hurrying to catch back up. Grace needed reassurance but I couldn't offer it now.

She would be free soon enough.

The temperature in the hall plummeted. My breath came out in a cloud of steam and the walls of the cells frosted over.

Still we forged ahead.

Screams and odd laughter echoed in the quiet.

My heart pounded in my chest and Jayce clung to my hand. It was unsettling at best, terrifying at worst.

“Come in,” someone called out. The female voice was unfamiliar but we didn’t stop until we reached an open doorway, light spilling out.

A woman was waiting in a hospital chair, sitting as if it was a throne. Her snide smile was painted red and her eyes were cold.

“New pets for me?” she gasped, clutching her chest. “You shouldn’t have.”

“They’re mine and you can’t have them,” I said as we all ignored her and started to search.

“It’s here somewhere,” Lucien promised.

We frantically ripped at the furniture and the bed, searching for hidden spaces in the drawers and underneath.

Lucy sat and watched us work with a silent curiosity. I couldn’t help glance her way as I flipped the mattress, gauging her reactions to gain clues on where it could be.
