“Yes, she’s repeating something. I can’t make it out, though.”

The frustration in her tone has me stepping up to her side, hoping that if I stand next to her that it might help her focus her powers. It’s a long shot but we know so fucking little about what we can do.

A gasp escapes me as I’m yanked from present to past. It seems Iris has other plans for me. So much for avoiding my powers tonight. I should have known it wouldn’t be that easy.

“Lucien, we have to tell the Dean. Stella put a razor blade in my sandwich at lunch. If I hadn’t spotted the metal before taking another bite, I would be dead.”

“We can’t prove it was her. If we run to him every time something bad happens and blame Stella, he’ll think we cried wolf. I know it was there and you do, too, but without another witness it’s only hearsay.”

Iris is flustered and stomps out of Lucien’s office. I’m pulled along with her since it’s her memory.

She marches over the grounds and straight to the Dean’s cottage. Iris is a woman on a mission, there is no doubt in that. And I can’t really blame her, Stella is a fucking psycho.

Iris stops on the porch to take a few breaths before pounding a fist on the wooden door.

She knocks until Stella answers the door with a sweet smile on her lips.

“Can I help you, Iris?” Her voice is sickly sweet and there is a ring of innocence in her tone. She plays her part well.

“I know it was you,” Iris accuses.

“Whatever do you mean?” She blinks at her with wide, innocent eyes and even I almost believe her. But then I remember what a psycho she is.

“I will get proof, I will have the police arrest you. Leave me and Lucien alone.”

Iris turns her back to Stella, which is a bold move considering she already tried to kill her.

“Aww, sweetie, you are delusional. How can a man love two women?” Stella calls after her. “He was mine first. I don’t know why you think otherwise.”

Iris huffs but heads back to the college and her classroom. Once inside, she locks the door behind her and heads to her desk. On her desk is a wrapped gift, at first Iris sets it aside and returns to grading papers but keeps eyeing the gift. It looks normal, just plain wrapping paper and a pretty bow on top. But if I’ve learned anything…it's that nothing is safe when Stella is involved.

“Don’t open it, don’t do it,” I try to warn her. With all the trouble from Stella, I know that whatever is in that package is nothing good. I try and pick up the gift but my hands just go right through it. Damn it, all to Hell.

Iris finally grabs the gift again and places it in front of her. She pulls the ribbon and the box collapses to reveal a dead bird with a note that reads, ‘you’re next.’

As the memory dissolves, Iris’s scream rings in my head.

“Eli, are you alright?”

Raven’s beautiful face and blue-black hair cascade into my view.

“Yep, I’m good. Just a message from Iris not to underestimate Stella or the level of crazy she is.” This one is a bit easier to shake off

“Uh, guys, we have a problem,” Jayce’s voice is defeated and I glance over, ready for another round of bad fucking news.

“What?” Raven asks as she pinches the bridge of her nose.

“There’s no headstone here,” he says. “I mean, there’s headstones, but nothing for her.”

“What?” I ask in shock. Of all the things I considered could happen…this wasn’t even in the realm of possibility. If she’s not buried here, then where?

Raven

We went back to the apartment disappointed but not tired. We needed to get rid of Stella before she got us first.

“So, do you think that she may be buried at the college?” Jayce asks.

“I mean seeing that her father was the Dean for so long, it’s possible but then again it burnt and they didn’t rebuild it. Besides, why would they want a memorial of the lady there that was most likely the cause of the fire in the first place?”
