Despite how unsettling I find it, I can’t fault them for adjusting to their new normal. I think I’m just hitting my capacity for ‘going with the flow.’

“Lucien, you alright?” Raven asks as she helps Eli up from the coffee table.

“What?” I ask. Her voice is what breaks me from my thoughts.

“You good, bro?” Eli questions as he runs a hand through his hair as if to smooth it.

“Me? Yes, just lost in my own head. Are you okay?” I counter.

“Fine, just don’t think I’ll ever get used to these visions. The happy ones are fine, but these ones aren’t for the faint of heart,” he admits. “It’s not just like watching something on TV. I’m living it with them, seeing it through their eyes, and if it’s strong enough, I get to feel it for the full experience.” As if he feels it now, the man rubs his chest absently.

“So, are we all on the same page about Pandora?” Jayce pipes up.

Raven’s eyes tear up but she nods yes.

I walk over to her and wrap her in a hug. She does the same and pulls me close.

“If she is here, we will find her. She came to you for a reason, I think more time here will provide us with the why,” I tell her.

She sniffles a little but doesn’t pull away.

“Do you think we need to go check on the sheriff?” Eli asks, “Not that the search for Pandora isn’t more important. Probably not the best idea to look for bodies with the law on the land.”

Raven's laugh rumbles my chest a little. She peeks up from our hug with a slight smile on her lips.

“Yes, we won’t be any help to anyone locked up,” she states. “Plus, we better make sure that house hasn’t injured him.”

I can tell after the vision, that Eli is itching to get out of this broken-down home. “We can decide what to do with all these broken-down buildings. I think getting the house in shape should be the first thing to do.”

Raven unwraps from around me but keeps one arm around my waist. “What did I do in a past life to deserve you three?”

Jayce and Eli both roll their eyes.

“It’s us that are the lucky ones,” I remind her.

Her blue eyes light up at my words and there’s the girl that I fell for. All three of us hate to see her hurting like this, but there isn’t anything we can do to ease this pain. At least not until we get things settled and have a chance to explore. Finding Pandora would be the hardest hit but it would be the first step for her to heal.

We make our way carefully out of the original house. Once outside, I can breathe again. There’s something about that house that’s suffocating. Like a dark presence is settling over your soul just being near it.

“I don’t hear any screaming or yelling, so I take it that the sheriff isn’t hurt,” Eli jokes.

“You can’t scream if you’re dead,” Jayce deadpans. He starts to backpedal when he notices the look on Raven’s face. “I..uh..”

I hold up a hand to stop him from talking, “Just bad timing.”

I may be still getting used to this era but even I can tell that was in poor taste. Jayce seems to struggle with blurting things out sometimes and from the way Raven shakes her head in exasperation, she’s not truly hurt by it.

We remain silent as we walk to the house listening for any sounds from the sheriff.

The moment he steps onto the front porch, we let out a collective sigh of relief that we mask quickly as he joins us on the lawn.

“That one room looks as if it’s the only one that was disturbed. I don’t have any kind of team that can come fingerprint the place. But I will go and speak with the closest neighbors,” he states, pulling a card from his wallet. “Here’s my number, including my cell. Call me day or night. Are you planning on moving out here?”

“We are still mulling it over, but I think so. Would it be okay to start cleaning up?” Raven asks.

“Yes, ma’am. This is your property, do with it as you’d like,” he says with a smile.

I don’t like the way he’s looking at our girl, but right now isn’t the time to bring that up. Jealousy is a new emotion for me since coming back from the dead. And I can tell by Eli and Jayce’s faces they are thinking the same thing.
