“I’ll need your word.”

“You know, I could be offended by that.” She tilts her head. “But you have it. I won’t tell anyone I know where she is. I won’t tell anyone I’m part of her court. Until I can brag right in front of my mother’s face, ah!”

And then she’s gone.

Ryther sighs deeply, and I get it in a way. Her energy’s so intense, excited, where he’s calm and collected.

“Well, that was unexpected. Wasn’t she your lover?” She didn’t seem bothered one way or another about finding us naked in a bathroom, my hair mussed, his cock, rock hard.

Unlike me. I was bothered.

“She’s a hole I fuck occasionally,” he corrects me.

That’s sobering, given the fact that I just became another hole he fucked, once.

“Now, where were we?”

“You spanked my ass and came in my throat.” I shrug. “Which, come to think of it, is pretty one-sided. I think I’ll get some rest now. And you know, take care of my needs myself.”

It’s the smart thing to do. I’ve known the man for mere days, and I’m in too deep, considering what I know of his character. Hell, my first instinct when I saw Relva was jealousy. I’m better off putting distance between us now.

Hoping I appear as nonchalant as the rest of them, I make my way out of the room. Maybe I roll my hips a little on the way out, too. And who can blame me? I’m walking away, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make him look at what he’s missing.

I’m almost out when he talks. “You know, I rather like this game.”

I frown, turning to find him smirking, all trace of the cold thing he was in front of the other girl gone.

But there’s something else just as dangerous in its place.

“Ten.”

“What?”

“I’m counting until ten.” That grin has a dangerous edge. “And then, I’m chasing after you. Make it to the bedroom before I catch you, and you can tuck into bed warm and safe.”

I swallow. “And if I don’t?”

Ryther’s eyes rake over my body, openly devouring it rather than answering out loud. “I suggest you get going if you don’t want to find out.”

CHAPTER FORTY

CATS AND DOGS

Darina

It’s not far. The house is rather small, and I was there just last night. I know where the room is. Just at the end of the corridor, to the left.

With a head start, I’ll make it before him, won’t I?

My heart beats as I look over my shoulder. Has it been ten seconds yet?

I can see the dark doorway, straight ahead. I’m fairly certain that’s where he took me last night.

Then again, I could be wrong; maybe that’s his lounge and a bunch of fae lords are waiting for me.

But no. We’re alone. I can tell, just like I could sense that someone was on the way when Ryther helped me to my feet moments ago.

I’m halfway through the hallway when I think I hear something, and look again.
