“Don’t take it personally,” Cam said. “Josie doesn’t like anybody.”

“Except Kane,” I countered.

Camryn tapped her phone. “She’s loyal to Kane. There’s a difference. Now shush. I’m putting her on speakerphone.”

The phone rang twice before Josie picked up. “What is it, Sable?”

“If it isn’t Miss Josephine Banks, my favorite vampire in the whole world,” Cam cooed.

Josie’s sigh was audible. “Flattery will get you flayed. What do you need?”

“Can you be an absolute doll and check the international guild roll for any drangues?”

“What’s a drangue? Never heard of them.”

“Winged creature, semi-human, supernatural powers, invulnerable.”

“Are you sure you don’t mean an angel?”

Camryn narrowed her eyes at the phone. “I think I know the difference between an angel and a drangue.”

“What is it?”

Camryn faltered. “What’s what?”

“The difference. It will help my research.”

“You don’t need it to search the roll. Everyone’s species is listed. Just type ‘drangue’ in the search bar and see who comes up.”

Josie sat quietly for a beat. “You don’t know the difference, do you?”

Cam’s grip tightened on the phone. “I certainly do,” she snapped, her cheerful disposition slipping in the face of Josie’s stoic torment.

“If you say so.”

“I do.”

“Okay then. Please hold.”

Camryn’s jaw clenched as she hit the mute button. “She must sense your presence, Lorelei. She’s usually not this prickly with me.”

Gun laughed. “I love that it’s Lorelei’s fault that you don’t know the difference between an angel and a drangue.”

The blood rushed to Camryn’s face. “You know what? I’m not treating you to dinner tonight. I’ve lost my appetite.”

“Are you there, Sable?” Josie’s voice broke through the sound of Gun’s laughter.

Cam clicked off the mute button. “Yes.”

“There’s only one drangue on the roll, but he’s on medical leave until August.”

Cam stared at the phone. “One drangue. Wow.”

“Should I check for any angels?” Josie offered. “Given they’re so similar.”

Cam’s fingers curled around the phone, and I worried she was about to crush it against the wall. “No need, but I appreciate the offer.”

“Tell me something,” Josie said. “Am I still your favorite vampire in the whole world?”
