“Whatever you did last night took a lot out of you,” he remarked.

“I’m a bit sore, especially my muscles. Other than that, I feel pretty good.”

He held up his hands and wiggled his fingers. “I can help with the muscles. Just tell me where to put these hands.” His eyes glinted with mischief.

“Are you sure? That’s a lot of touching.”

“You have advanced warning, and emotions aren’t heightened.” He eyed me closely. “Are they?”

I tapped the back of the chair. “Massage away.”

He stood behind the chair and began to knead my shoulders.

Nice. I could get used to this.

“Nana Pratt said you asked her to undress me. You didn’t want to do the honors?”

“Not under the circumstances, no.” He leaned forward, his breath tickling my earlobe. “When I undress you, it’s going to be under entirely different circumstances.”

A pleasant shiver rattled my body. “You said ‘when,’ not ‘if.’”

“I chose the right word.”

“Someone’s confident.”

“You don’t get to be a prince of hell without confidence.”

“Are you sure you don’t mean arrogance?”

He squeezed my shoulders.

“Gun’s angry with me. He knows I kept things from him.”

“He’ll get over it.”

I tilted my head back to observe him. “Do you really think so?”

“He adores you.”

And I adored him. It was a mutual admiration society.

“I don’t want everyone to be afraid of me.”

“I’m not afraid of you.”

I let myself get lost in his whisky-colored eyes. “I think that might be one of the reasons I’m drawn to you.”

A lazy smile emerged. “You’re drawn to me, are you?”

“Like a fly to a horse’s ass.”

He kissed the tip of my nose, and I straightened my head.

“I have no doubt your name will come up at the next guild meeting,” he mused.

“Why?”

“Because you’ll need to be recorded as an official threat. It’s simple bureaucracy. Nothing to be concerned about.”
