“How did you get in?” I asked.

“Sian was kind enough to extend an invitation,” Gun said. “We explained that we’re friends of yours.”

“And he just took our word for it.” Cam stifled a laugh. “Isn’t he precious?”

Sian blinked, perplexed. “Are you not friends?”

Sighing, I dropped my sheathed sword to the floor with a clatter and walked to the sink to wash my hands. “We are, but I wouldn’t typically allow people in my house if I’m not home.”

Sian lowered his gaze to the table. “Yes, that makes sense. I apologize. On the bright side, Nerds are a delicious candy. Have you tried them?” He raised the small box and seemed to realize it was now empty. “Perhaps next time.”

I dried my hands and sank into the fourth chair at the table.

Gun observed my present condition. “Dare I ask?”

“There was a situation with werewolves. It’s been dealt with.” For now.

Cam brightened. “The same werewolves that Vaughn fought? I heard he had that sexy post-brawl glow when he broke out of prison. Did he look hardened? Do you think prison changed him?”

“First of all, we didn’t break him out. Everything was above board.” I assumed. You never knew for sure with Kane. “Second, it was jail, not prison.”

“Was his hair tousled? Ooh, was it sticking up in the front in that boy band way I love?”

“I wouldn’t say he resembled the member of a boy band. He looked like someone who’d slept overnight in a jail cell.”

Her mouth turned up at the corners. “In other words, his hair was disheveled, like he’d just stumbled out of bed in nothing but his boxer briefs?”

Gunther groaned. “You need to make up your mind. Are you interested in him or not?”

“Sounds to me like she is very interested,” Sian said.

Cam wrapped a strand of hair around her finger and played with the ends. “I think we can all agree that he’s unnaturally hot. That doesn’t make us all interested in a relationship with him. I mean, the statue of David is easy on the eyes, but I’m not waiting for an invitation to Florence.”

“That might be difficult for him, given he’s made of stone,” I said.

Camryn flicked a finger. “Oh, he can be turned back, but no mage is willing to take responsibility for destroying a beloved piece of art.” She put the word ‘art’ in air quotes.

Gun rolled his eyes. “She’s convinced David is Medusa’s handiwork and that Michelangelo took all the credit.”

“Typical white man privilege,” Cam added with a sigh of tedium.

“For what it’s worth, I think you and Vaughn would make a great couple,” I told her.

“Sometimes I think so, but then I remember how similar we are, and I worry it’s a bad idea.”

“Because you’re both mage assassins?” I asked.

She gave me a look of disdain. “Because we’re both Virgos.”

“A recipe for disaster,” Gun agreed. “Neither one of you will be capable of meeting the other one’s standards because you’re both highly critical and totally unreasonable.”

Cam smiled. “I love that you know me so well.”

He shrugged. “That’s what cousins are for.”

Sian’s head bounced back and forth as he attempted to follow the conversation. “You are actual assassins? This was not a jest?”

“Not a jest,” I said.
