“No, I don’t know. Shit, maybe. It’s not like we’ve been doing anything preventative to not be pregnant.”

Carter nodded and lowered his eyes to her stomach once more. “Nah, we haven’t been careful for shit and I’ve been shooting up the spot for months now. Is that why you looked like you were about to throw up when she asked for a tampon?”

McKenna nodded slowly. “I haven’t really thought about it. There’s been so much going on that my period really hasn’t crossed my mind. But when she asked, I realized I hadn’t bought any in months.”

“You haven’t been drinking.”

She frowned. “Not because I thought I was pregnant. Just in case I got pregnant.”

“You still good with having kids?”

“Are you?”

“Hell yeah.”

She smiled. “Can we talk about it later?”

“Why don’t you want to talk about it now?” He glared at her and she leaned across the seat and planted a kiss.

“We have somewhere to be and it’s important.”

“There isn’t a damn thing more important than our kid, McKenna.”

McKenna.

She smiled, knowing he only used her full name when he was agitated.

“It’s important. Can you just trust me, please?”

He glared for a minute longer and started the car, but didn’t say anything until they were out of the parking garage when he asked, “Where we going?”

She gave him the address and smiled again, knowing in the near future Carter would be buying out every pregnancy test he could find until he got the answers he wanted.

That she was pregnant.

After they parked at Sushi House, Carter glanced at the building and his expression shifted into a scowl. “Unless you’re telling me you are pregnant and my son or daughter is making you crave this, being here is not more important than discussing what our future looks like.”

She smiled slowly. “I’m not craving anything because I’m not pregnant. Well I don’t know if I am or not, but regardless, that’s not why we’re here.”

“Then why are we?”

“To meet Kaamal Greyson.”

“Who the fuck is he?”

“Will you relax?”

“Hell no I won’t. You just said we’re here to meet some man I don’t know.”

“If it wasn’t something legit do you think I would be meeting him with you, my fiancé?”

“Fuck if I know. People do wild shit and to be perfectly honest, I don’t like you saying another man’s name at all. So how about you hurry and tell me why the fuck we’re here so I can decide if there’ll be a news story about him later or not.”

“Carter…”

He grinned and offered a dangerously sinful but serious look. McKenna shook her head. “He owns Greyson Funeral Home.”

She searched his face and didn’t find a reaction so she further explained, “They handled the burial for your parents.”
