Carter: You’re in one of my cars, Kenni. I know where my vehicles are at all times, especially when you’re in it.

McKenna: Or you just followed me ??

Carter: If I did, would you care?

McKenna: That would be creepy.

Carter: Or a man protecting his woman.

McKenna: Or a man who has separation issues.

“You gonna sext that man on my dime, Kenni?” McKenna nodded and grinned at the sound of her girl’s voice.

“You ain’t shit,” Drea sang in amusement, then added, “Dick must really be phenomenal though.”

Carter: If I didn’t think that shit made me sound like a pussy I would agree so I’ll rephrase for you. A man who can’t stand for his woman to give her time to anybody but him.

Her smile blossomed slowly but consumed her face.

McKenna: What’s your favorite color?

Carter: You.

McKenna: ??

Carter: Why you rolling your damn eyes? My favorite color is you. Now why do you wanna know?

McKenna: Because that’s what color my nails will be when my hand is wrapped around your dick later.

Carter: Then hurry the fuck up.

McKenna: Says the man who doesn’t have separation issues.

Carter: Just bring yo’ ass home, Kenni, and soon.

She locked her phone and dropped it in her lap before snatching the color book from Drea’s lap.

“Uh, hoe, I was using that.”

“I know, it won’t take me long. I already know what color I want. I just need to find the number so I can tell them.”

She grinned after locating the color that matched her sienna skin and that grin shifted into a full blown smile at the way he had her.

McKenna startled when she finished keying the code to enter Carter’s apartment and the shopping bag she fumbled with didn’t land at her feet. Instead, a set of large hands appeared right before they took possession of the bag.

“Shit, make some noise or something,” she gasped, slightly relaxing.

Angry eyes landed on Brooks whose expression was smug when he spoke. “Kind of a bad trait to possess for someone in my profession.”

“You’re not working so you could make an exception.”

She yanked the handle down and pushed inside of Carter’s apartment. Brooks followed. McKenna glanced over her shoulder with a narrowed stare. The night Carter and Brooks broke into her house, he wasn’t kind. Their interactions since were not enough for her to gauge how she felt about him. He and Carter were close so she would, at the very least, allow him grace based on their relationship.

“Is he expecting you?”

“No, because he’s not here.”

Her eyes darted around and she noticed everything was quiet other than their conversation and movement.
