“You’ll find out when we get there.”

“How am I supposed to make plans blindly or at the last minute?”

“You’re not making plans. The plans are already in motion.”

“When are we leaving?”

“Tomorrow.”

“What time?”

“Evening.”

“How long are we staying?”

“Long enough.”

“Carter…” she growled.

“You wanted to go. I’m letting you go. You don’t get to ask questions.”

She huffed. “What do I need to pack?”

“Clothes.”

“For how long?”

“Just pack, Kenni.”

“I can’t if I don’t know what I need to pack for.”

“Clothes and make sure you include some damn pants.” He narrowed his eyes as they traveled down her body.

“You like me better without pants.” Carter smirked and his eyes swept over her again.

“I won’t argue with that. One bag, that’s all, include pants.”

“Do you understand the challenge of telling a woman she’s going out of town and can only pack one bag?”

His eyes flickered with amusement. “If I say yes, you’re going to be angry. If I say no, you’re going to argue your point to try and change my mind. I won’t. One bag.”

“If you say yes, I’m going to throw this glass at you because who the fuck have you been out of town with? I can only imagine what she was able to fit into one bag that made the trip work…”

Carter chuckled and pushed his chair back. He lifted both of their plates and carried them to the kitchen. When he returned, he stopped beside her and leaned down to press a kiss to her temple. “Thank you for dinner and you still only get one bag.”

He left the room and McKenna cleaned up what was left on the table then joined Carter in the bedroom, where he was standing at the foot of the bed, eyes locked on the TV on the wall in front of him. She moved beside him and grabbed the remote from his hand, unmuting the volume to listen to the story. There were two anchors on screen discussing details of the latest body discovered by Crescent Falls Police Department.

“Authorities are at a loss. With one more body added to the list and no leads, CFPD is rightfully concerned. The Ammo Killer doesn’t seem to be letting up and authorities are baffled as to his motive.”

She glanced at Carter after feeling the weight of his eyes on her. His stare was intense but she ignored him and focused on the screen again.

“So no leads at all, Salenda?”

“Nothing other than the lone bullet found on all the victims, which they can’t tie to any one person or organization, as of yet.”

“Thank you, Salenda. And as she stated, we ask that you’re cautious as you move about the city and if you have any useful information that can help bring the Ammo Killer to justice, please contact CFPD’s tip line. You can remain anonymous. The number is listed on the screen below. When we return, we’ll have the weather with Dean. It looks like there will be some rain in our forecast. Stay tuned.”

After the news story was over, she lifted the remote and muted the TV again, tossing it on the bed once she was done. “They’re talking about you.”
