Draped over me in the bed, the sleeping Serena started to stir, too. The warmth of her naked flesh pressed against mine almost had me convinced to let the noise go unanswered. I wouldn’t complain if I spent the full day just like this, running my hands through her hair as she slept on me.

But fuck, that noise was annoying. I was ready to destroy whatever it was that interrupted such a perfect moment. It better be important or my wrath would know no end.

I carefully slipped Serena off of me. Then I leaped out of bed towards the source of the noise. I found it in the form of my percomm device, still in my pants pocket, left carelessly on the bathroom floor from last night’s fun.

A message from Koda.

“You’re on thin ice, Koda. This better be…”

I hit play on the message, and Koda’s voice came in loud and clear. “We got him. Meet me in the east wing of Black Star.”

It took all my self-control not to roar with excitement. The creep who’d been harassing Serena had been grabbed. And I would get to go deal with him. But I still didn’t want to wake her. She deserved some rest.

“What was that?” Serena mumbled behind me.

Too late.

“A message from one of my men. They’ve got Erznet.”

“Really?” Serena’s beautiful face lit up and she immediately climbed out of bed.

“No, no, no,” I said, placing a hand on Serena’s bare chest and slowly lowering her back into the bed. “You stay here. Rest up. I’ll handle everything.”

“But, Jalik, this is my problem. I should?—”

“You should be nowhere near this asshole. Let me handle this for you. Stay here, and I’ll be right back as soon as I finish this whole ordeal.”

“Okay,” she said as she pulled the blankets back over herself and instantly dozed off. “But just… don’t be…”

I wasn’t even out of the bedroom before her words were replaced by soft snores of a deep sleep. That girl needed nothing more than a good night’s sleep. And I was happy to give it to her.

I quickly threw on some clothes and rushed out of the apartment down to the casino one floor below. As I did, I sent a message out to my whole security guard team. Anyone not currently patrolling the casino grounds was to report to the east wing.

While Erznet was in our custody, I wasn’t taking any chances. I had no idea what to expect from him. We didn’t know if he was working with anyone else. I was not going to let him slip from our grasp.

Moments later, I entered the east wing, flanked by some of my guards. Just as he said, Koda was there waiting for me. Without a word, Koda led us all out of the public area of the casino and into the back halls.

“Where did you find him?”

“He was lurking around Serena’s apartment,” Koda responded.

“Did he put up a fight?”

“No. He tried to run but quickly slipped on the wet ground. Almost knocked himself out when he fell. I don’t think this guy is some genius strategist or anything.”

“I’ll be the judge of that.”

Koda brought us to a back room where they tossed Erznet. I motioned for everyone to stand guard outside, then walked in alone.

The room we had him in was one designed to interrogate, completely bare except for a single chair in the center. Well, that and the blood stains on the walls and floor from past assholes who thought they could withhold information.

“Erznet, I assume?”

“Yeah.” The Fanaith looked up at me from the chair with his beady black eyes. “What am I doing here? I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Didn’t do anything wrong?”

“Yeah.”
