She's only seventeen, but my body doesn't give a shit as it heats up, and my heart races like it normally does when she's nearby. I've ensured to stay clear of her, knowing my life would tarnish hers. She's smart as fuck, graduated high school a year early, and is now a freshman. I won't fuck with that; I won't bring her into a club, a life I didn't even want.

Plus, she's underage, granted only by a year, but still....

Swallowing hard at the perfect smile she's giving her friend, I ignore how nice her ass looks in those tight black jeans and how I want to kiss her bare shoulder. I try to ignore those plump lips of hers and her gorgeous light caramel eyes as I snort the white powder up my nose, my eyes watering as a rush shoots through me. I grin as the past disappears—the psychological abuse, the neglect, there’s nothing but the rush.

Let's get the fucking party started.

* * *

Violet – 17 Years Old

I wince at Penny, my new “friend” from the sorority I've just joined, Phi Kappa Chi, mainly because of the cheap living accommodation. Her light pink, shoulder-length hair is curled perfectly and bounces with each step she takes in her silver stripper heels, so I'm surprised she's not broken her neck yet.

She looks ready for a night on the town instead of a house party full of jocks and frat guys in her tight, white mini dress that leaves nothing to the imagination, hugging her curves.

She instantly latched onto me when I got accepted and initiated as a sister this morning. I'm still trying to feel her out because no one likes a smart, goody-two-shoes a year younger than them. I think she's playing a game with me. We'll be taking some of the same classes, and I know I need to keep my eyes open with her.

I somehow graduated high school a year early before getting the acceptance letter for Huntersville College. I refused to go anywhere where my parents weren't. We're extremely close; I couldn't imagine my life without them.

All I've ever wanted is to make them proud, and I know I'm the apple of their eye. But that'll soon change after the bombshell Momma just dropped.

I gasp in shock, clutching the phone to my ear, nearly tripping over. "Fucking hell, Momma! You're in your forties, is it safe?"

The other end of line is suddenly quiet. I wince, realizing how that probably sounded as Penny raises a brow. My mother's voice echoes into the night sky alongside Penny's clicking heels as she links arms with Barbara, another sister.

"Violet Sapphire Bailey….”

I hear my father laugh, ignoring the cursing before he shouts, "That’s what I said when she told me," making me snort. I cough to cover it up. I don't want to upset my momma, but I still find it funny how alike Daddy and I are.

I clear my throat and apologize. "I'm sorry, Momma. It's just a shock, is all, though I am happy."

She sniffs, and I wince again, knowing she's hormonal. "Really, Bugs?"

I smile. "Of course, I am. I've always wanted a little brother or sister."

She replies happily, "Sister…we're having a girl, darling. Her name is Ivory. We didn't want to tell you until we knew everything was okay."

I grin wide. "I'll teach her everything I know…."

Momma laughs as my father shouts, "No! No glitter in my shaving cream, Vi…."

Momma and I laugh as the ladies in front of me cheer when we get to the overly populated front garden of Brad Wilson's house. I wince, seeing someone throw up to the left of us, making Penny gag as she hurries by.

The place is a mess already, and it's only eight.

I silently groan, wishing I was cuddled up with a book in bed with Hell Girl's newest book. "Alright, Momma, I'm at the party, so I have to go. This pregnancy may be a shock, but it's also a blessing. They told you you couldn't conceive after me, and now I’m an adult, and you're basically starting over, but it's an adventure." I smile, hearing her contented sigh. "Cherish this time, Momma. I promise I'm happy about this. Call me tomorrow after your OB appointment, okay? I love you."

She sniffles again. "How did I get so lucky to have you as a daughter, huh? I love you too, Bugs."

I chuckle and say, "I don't know. You and Daddy are great parents, I guess, and this baby will get to experience greatness just like I did. I'll speak to you tomorrow." She sniffles again as I yell, "Love you, Daddy!"

He shouts back, "Love you more, Bugsy!" making me laugh. We hang up, and I take a deep breath, ready to face my first college party.

We're about two hours in, and Penny and Barbara have ditched me, which is no surprise. I've had several people look at me with a raised brow, which may have to do with the fact that I'm leaning against the wall near the stairs, wondering if I'm better off just leaving.

I've never felt so out of place.

Momma told me I needed to at least try and have some fun for once, that college is also an experience, not all work, but this party sucks, and I hate that there are drugs here. Some blonde girl on the black leather couch is snorting something, and I don't want to be involved.
