This is definitely.. going to be a very long night.

Chapter forty-nine

Killian

Walking into our bedroom, I noticed the bed was now empty as the balcony door was opened. Looking at the gorgeous woman sitting in the chair only in my dress shirt, I approached her slowly as she turned to look at me. Looking at her exposed shoulder, I pulled my dress shirt back over her skin as I heard a few of my guards speak by the garage below us.

“Really, Killy? Now you care about them seeing me?” She giggled cheekily as she made me recall the events of last night. I ignored her as I placed a kiss on her lips.

“Mmmm.. I made you breakfast,” I said, admiring her as I placed the plate on the table.

“Well, that was very thoughtful of you.”

“I am a thoughtful person, Brielle. So thoughtful, I ran a bath for us as well.”

“Must you find a way to be egotistical in every sentence you say?” She asked sarcastically, and I smirked.

“It’s in my nature to do so, my darling.” Rolling her eyes, she responded.

“I should have never asked.” Sitting across from her, I watched her take a bite of the red velvet pancakes. A smile came to her face as she looked over at me.

“Not bad, Mr. Russel.” She complimented, and I shrugged.

“I try my best..” I smiled and gazed at her lovingly as she ate. She rested her legs over my thighs under the table, and I massaged her calves slowly. I was still trying to find a way to articulate my feelings for her. A way that wouldn’t scare her off too much or overwhelm her. I knew she would accept me and my emotions, but I was still wary. For what reason, I still didn’t know.

Deciding to rip it off like a bandaid, I spoke breathlessly. “I need you to tell me you love me.” She practically froze at that moment, and I could feel time essentially stopping. My heart beat erratically in my chest as I waited for her reaction, which was unresponsive for the moment.

“Why?” She asked softly, and I rubbed my hand up and down her leg.

“I need to know that you do… I need to hear you say it.” She looked at me momentarily before a look of realization came over her face slightly.

“What if.. the feeling is not reciprocated?” She whispered, and I shook my head.

“I think you know it will be, although I understand your hesitancy. The only difference between us is that I say it to you when you’re actually sleeping.. not when you’re pretending to.” I admitted, as I had heard her the other day mention it before we left for London. I half expected her to say it, but my heart clenched as tears came to her eyes.

“I can’t…” She whispered as she shook her head. I stood up and walked over to her. Holding the sides of her face in my hand, I allowed her chin to rest on my lower abs as she looked up at me.

Wiping the tears from her eyes, I whispered. “Why not?”

“Because then.. everything becomes real.” She said through a sob, and I leaned down with a sigh.

“Would that be such a bad thing?” I asked, and she breathed in deeply as she tried to speak.

“Being with you is a dream.. and if it becomes real, then I’m afraid one of us will wake up.” I smiled at her beautiful use of wording as I leaned down and wrapped my arms around her. She pulled me in with her arms around my neck, and I felt a tear fall on my shoulder.

“Why would I have asked you to marry me in the beginning, Brielle?” I muttered, and she pulled me closer as she shook her head.

“Because you’re crazy..” She whispered, and I held back a chuckle as I spoke once again.

“Aside from that.. It’s because I fell in love with you the day we met.” I muttered, running my hand down her trembling back.

“Love at first sight?” She asked, and I shrugged.

“If that’s what you want to call it. I didn’t just want you to work for me. Iwanted you. I wanted all of you. The good, the bad and the ugly. You made me certain from the day I met you that you were what I needed in life. Who else is going to tolerate me if not you, hmm?” I questioned, and she shook her head.

“Absolutely, no one.” She whispered, and I hummed.

“Unfortunate for others but lucky for me.. because you are all I need from now until the end of time.” She shuddered in my hold as she calmed herself slowly and whispered her following words
