“Sir… You’ve been down here for some time now.”

“I just need to think,” I responded quickly.

“Well, if I know you like I think I do, I would think something was wrong.” I didn’t say anything for a moment as I looked down with my hands in my pockets and shook my head.

“…I think I’m losing it, Ben..” I muttered, and he replied.

“You most certainly are not losing it, sir.” I placed my hands in my hair again.“You don’t get it.”

“I completely understand the predicament you are in-” As if my body moved on its own, I cut him off by turning and grabbing my scotch glass, throwing it across the room, making it shatter as it hit the wall. He turned his head to the broken glass and back to me with the same expression as if he wasn’t impressed.

“Killian-” I cut him off.

“No, Ben. You do not understand how I’m feeling. I am losing my control.Neverhas my life been this dysfunctional in a matter of four months. My mind is always elsewhere, Calvin is always up my ass, I have a bunch of fucking imbeciles who have no idea what they’re doing in my company, my father is pestering me 24/7, Marissa and her parents are now God knows where doing God knows what, Eugene is off and on the radar as if I have the time and patience to look for him and…” I stopped as I could feel my heart beating out of my chest.

“And what?” He asked, and I didn’t respond as I sat on the couch again. “If I am correct, sir.. you met Ms. Newman four months ago. And how have those same months been with her?”

I sighed as I responded, “They’ve been amazing.”

“And I’m sure you wouldn’t trade the time you’ve spent with her for anything in the world.”

“….You know I wouldn’t.”

He nodded slowly and spoke. “Then why let the problems overshadow the best moments you’ve had in your life so far?”

“Because it feels suffocating.. almost like we can’t even have a moment to breathe.”

“Well, it’s always easy to suffocate in chaos and ruin.. it’ll always be more challenging to find your way out of it, to rise above it. And if I know you, sir, I’m sure you’re no stranger to overcoming the unattainable.”

Letting his words sink in momentarily, I sighed, “..I guess you’re right, and don’t say something sarcastic.” He looked like he was about to speak but bit his tongue as I uttered the last part of my sentence. “Not that I need your suggestion, but what do you think I should do now?” I asked, and he shrugged.

“Take your mind off the problems. Talk to her, make her feel better about the entire situation… I happen to know what would make her very happy.”

“And what would that be?”

“The both of us have been chatting and planning a holiday getaway to one of your homes in Quebec, but I need your approval to finalize it.”

“When were you going to inform me about this?”

He shrugged. “Sometime this week when the time seemed appropriate.”

“When do we leave?”

“A week or so.” I nodded my head and stood up.

“Have everything done by tomorrow and send me the information regarding our stay. Let me know if you have any issues.” He nodded, and I walked to the stairs as he spoke. “…There is asmallcatch, sir.”

“Figure it out. I’ll deal with it later.” I went up the stairs, and he spoke again.

“But sir-” I cut him off.

“Figure it out, Ben.” He walked off to clean the mess with a soft chuckle, and I continued to my room. Opening the door, I saw Brielle sitting silently on the edge of the bed. Going over to her, I stroked her arm softly as I walked by, causing her to turn and look over to me as if she hadn’t noticed I was in the room.

“Hi…” She spoke, and I replied.

“Hello love, how are you feeling?” She sighed, and I stood still, waiting for her response.

“The last two hours just passed, and I didn’t even notice.” I nodded, and as I was about to speak, she stood up and had tears already falling down her face.
