“Darling, please don’t cry for those people,” I almost pleaded, and she hiccuped softly as she tried wiping away her tears.

“I feel like a coward.” She whispered, and I approached her slowly.

“In what way?” I asked, and she shook her head.

“I should’ve said something to them.. I should’ve shown them I was doing more than fine on my own and that I never needed them. I should’ve made them feel the pain I did when they abandoned me.. Instead, I ran.”

“Brielle, they left you. The only cowards in this situation are them. You’re not the one at fault-”

“Then why does it feel like it?” She practically sobbed, and I pulled her into my embrace as she shook her head. “There has to be something wrong with me. If there weren’t, maybe they would’ve stuck around.. maybe we’d have a whole family again…” She cried, and I sighed.

With the information I learned from Eugene.. something tells me her family wasn’t whole from the beginning. It was practically on the tip of my tongue. To spill the truth and tell her everything I knew.. but I felt like I couldn’t.. not if her brother wasn’t ready.

“There is nothing wrong with you, Brielle. You are absolutely perfect,” I muttered, and she shook her head.

“Y-you’re just saying that..” She whispered, and I placed a small kiss on her hair.

“But it’s the truth. Your feelings of abandonment don’t define you, neither do their actions. They made the decision to leave, and they have to deal with the consequences of losing a daughter or a sister like you.” I muttered, and she wrapped her arms around my neck as I pulled her in closer. “I am going to do everything I can to make sure they never hurt you or Delilah again..” I whispered as she took in a breath and nodded her head in acknowledgment.

Rubbing her back softly, I spoke once again. “I have a small surprise. To get your mind off all this, Benjamin suggested the getaway you two talked about, and I approved it.” She gasped, and I could feel her squeeze me tighter.

“Really? You said yes?” She asked excitedly, her mood changing instantly, and I chuckled.

“Of course I did. Did you think I was going to say no?”

“I absolutely knew you would say no, but I guess I was wrong! Thank you, Killy.” I placed another kiss on the top of her head before she pulled away to look into my eyes.

“You’re welcome, darling… I love you.” She placed a small kiss on my lips before responding.

“I love you.”

Brielle

Entering Killian’s office, I placed the files on his desk, and he glanced up at me and spoke. “Thank you, darling.” In response, I gave him a smile and walked to my office. Taking a seat, I continued my work and busied myself to block out any negative emotions. Like Killian said.. I shouldn’t be thinking about the people who don’t make me happy. After twenty minutes, I heard his door open and looked up to see Nathan walking in.

I turned back to my work as they started talking, but only a minute or so had passed as I heard Killian yell. I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked up to see Killian looking furious and Nathan standing there with his head down. I got out of my seat and walked into his room just as he finished his sentence.

“I don’t want to hear the excuses, Fuller! I gave you a job to do, and you didn’t work to the best of your abilities.”Using last names now? He must be really upset.

“What’s going on here?” I asked, approaching Killian’s desk.

“I am having a conversation with Mr. Fuller about his performance and how he can better improve his services before I fire him on the spot.” He seethed, and I hummed.

“First of all, it’s Nathan, and second, this conversation is more like you yelling at him and not even giving him a chance to speak… is this about yesterday?” I questioned, and Killian looked back over at Nathan. “….More or less.” He muttered, and I crossed my arms as I turned to Nathan and spoke.

“Nathan. Go to my office and have a seat on the couch.” He looked to me, then to Killian with only his eyes, then back to me. He took one step, and Killian fumed.

“Nathan. You are to stay right where you are.” He looked between the two of us again, but this time, he didn’t move. I moved closer to him and pointed to my office with my arm fully extended.

“Nathan, go into my office.” He looked down at me, and I blinked once before speaking again. “Now.”

He gave Killian one last glance before walking into my office. Killian rounded his desk as he growled. “Nathan, you are under my authority, and I demand that you exit that room at once.” I placed my hand on his chest, making him stop completely in his tracks.

“Where are you going?” I asked him, and he ignored my question as he looked down at me.

“Brielle, your actions are making others begin to question my dominance.”

“By no means am I making these people less afraid of you than they already are. You still give everyone in this office nightmares by simply existing. I’m just making sure they know I’m here too whenever you get out of control, like right now.”
