“I knew I could count on you.” She giggled again as she looked up at him happily.

“Now we need to get going, special helper, chop chop! Go grab your coat, boots, and scarf.” She carelessly hopped off the stool, much to Benjamin’s dismay, and dashed to her room.

“No running, little one! I don’t want you to get hurt!” Hearing her footsteps slow down, he couldn’t help but wince as he heard a small thud. Rounding the table, he was ready to rush to the steps but rolled his eyes as she spoke.

“I’m okay!” He chuckled as she went up the stairs, and he, too, went to grab his things to get going. Upon entering his room, he grabbed everything he needed but stopped at the door as he eyed his dresser. There was a gut feeling telling him that he may need his pistol or shotgun for some time during the day, but he didn’t take either since he didn’t want Delilah to see them.

He waited by the staircase as the little girl came down happily and jumped into his arms from one of the last steps. He caught her quickly and tsked as he silenced her giggles.

“We talked about this little one. You need to warn me if you want to jump or for me to pick you up. You simply cannot throw yourself into my arms… Are you even listening to me, child?” He asked, and she nodded although she hadn’t heard a word.

“Got it, mister.” Benjamin rolled his eyes and went to the elevator.

“I know what you and Kimiko did to Reginald. Don’t think you can do the same to me when she visits.” He warned, hoping she wouldn’t. If they were alone, they acted like angels, but once they got together, it was as if the demons inside them awakened and consistently wanted attention.

They entered the garage, and Benjamin went over to his car, which was well over the price of an average one, and a gift from Killian. Buckling Delilah in her car seat in the back, he went to the front and buckled in as well. Placing his sunglasses on, he sped out of the garage, only to be rung by George. Answering the call on the car, he spoke.

“Hello, George.”

“Why aren’t you excited to hear my voice?”George asked, and Benjamin sighed.

“Because this is the third time you’ve called my cell since this morning, and it isn’t even noon yet.”

“I was just calling to see if you and Delilah wanted to have lunch. There’s no need to be a meanie.”Delilah giggled as she heard him speak, and Benjamin sighed.

“I’ll see what I can do. I’m going to the market to buy some things. Do you want anything?”

“I’ll send you a list. Gotta go”

“Wait, I was only buying you one-And he’s gone,”Benjamin groaned as the phone call ended. Reaching the market, he exited the car and let Delilah out as well. Holding her hand, he walked her in and grabbed a cart.

Saying what he needed on the list, he watched as Delilah picked up every item he stated and placed them inside. Entering the fifth aisle, Benjamin couldn’t help but look around for the fourth time today. He felt they were being watched and made sure to stay closer to Delilah.

He looked through the list to see if there was anything else they needed when he felt something hard pressed against his back and theclickof a gun. Sighing, he placed the list down, and the person spoke.

“I’m not here to hurt you. My boss would just like to have a word with the two of you.” Benjamin looked over to Delilah, who was still trying to find the right jelly. He readied himself to tackle the man, but before he could, the gunman spoke.

“I understand your self-defense level is very high, but this place is fully secured. One move, and theywillget the both of you.” Benjamin sighed as he relaxed his hands and looked over his shoulder slightly to see the man was wearing a suit.

“What is it that you need me to do?”

“Pick up the child and take her outside. There should be a car waiting for you in the front.” Benjamin stepped away from the gun and picked Delilah up. She frowned as she looked up at him and at the man who had the gun away now.

“What’s wrong, Benny?” She asked as he started leading her out of the building.

“Well, my little one, our day is being paused as of right now, and we have to go see someone.” He disclosed, and she pouted.

“It can’t wait?” She asked, wanting to continue their day, but Benjamin shook his head and looked around outside; surely enough, they were surrounded.“Unfortunately, love.. no, it can not.”

A man by the car parked in front of the store opened the door, and Benjamin stepped in, holding Delilah securely in his arms. The door closed, and Benjamin immediately pulled out his phone to send Killian a text, but the man from before spoke.

“Phone down,” Benjamin scowled and tucked his phone back into his pocket. They headed away from the city and even passed Killian’s buildings. He kept Delilah occupied with her phone games, and eventually, they reached the destination, making Benjamin roll his eyes as he should have known it from the very beginning.

Looking up at the mansion, he groaned as he could instantly tell it was Calvin’s. They were escorted inside and met with Calvin’s butler, who knew Benjamin all too well. He cleared his throat as Benjamin placed Delilah on the ground.

“Sir Lockwood requests that you see him in his study.” The butler, Pierce, spoke. Benjamin said nothing as he followed him to the study while holding Delilah’s hand. He opened the door and entered to see Calvin sitting on the sofa chair, reading a book. Hearing the door open, he looked up and placed the book down as he folded his hands in his lap.

“Benjamin… thank you for complying so easily.. You actually got here faster than I thought you would..” His eyes went down to Delilah, who was looking at Calvin emotionlessly.
