“It can be changed to settings like a regular wall, transparent on both views or just on one.”

“What do you mean byjust one?” I stepped away from his hand and turned to face him. He towered over me slightly and leaned down as he spoke.

“I mean that if I wanted to, I could change the setting to where I can see you, but you can’t see me…”

Feeling overwhelmed, I looked away from his intense gaze. He walked towards the door and beckoned for me to follow him. I hurried over to him as his long strides were hard to keep up with. He opened his office door, and we both stepped out.

“So, can you make all the walls in the building transparent?” I asked as he closed the door.

“I can, but I’d rather not. I’d like to make the employees feel less pressure than they already do. They know they’re on 24-hour surveillance, but see-through walls will just make them extremely paranoid,” He responded, though I could tell he didn’t care about whether or not they felt paranoid. We walked over to the elevator, and he nodded at Anna, who looked up at us for a split second.

We went towards the back, and he pointed to different rooms and told me what they were. Most of them happened to be conference rooms. When we finished, he walked me to an elevator in the back. He put his thumb on the pad, and the doors opened. We walked in, and it looked like the elevator up front, only sleeker and more polished.

He pressed the floor below us. “I’m only going to be showing you this floor because this will be the floor you interact with 50% of the time. The rest of the floors are controlled by my executives who work on this floor. The employees come up to the top floor for any scheduled meeting, or if it’s planned to be specifically on the lower floors, then we have the conference there. This reminds me, you are to accompany me to every meeting. To write notes, bring coffee, set up.. nothing too extreme.” The elevator doors opened, and we walked out.

“You have other buildings on this street?” I asked, and he nodded.

“Thirteen, to be exact.”

“Will we have meetings over there, too?”

“Most of the time, they’ll come here because this is headquarters, but I go to those buildings occasionally.” As we walked through, I could see people walking back and forth on the phone and heard meetings occurring in other rooms. We entered a room with a man at a desk with two computer screens and a stack of papers.

He walked me behind the desk. “Pull up an overview of our stock clients, Derek.”

“Of course, sir.”

“My industry manages stocks for the largest companies in the world. Our primary objective is to safeguard their financial assets and deliver the highest quality services. Not only that, but we also provide distribution networks to many businesses.” I looked at the overview and was surprised to see that huge-name brands were using his company.

On the side, there was also a list of CEOs he needed to get in contact with. At the bottom was a list of the wealthiest CEOs, and Killian was… second? Even though it was only by a few figures, with all he’s doing, I would assume he was first. He walked me out of the room and continued the tour.

“You’re the second wealthiest man in the country?” I asked as we finished the tour and returned to the elevator.

“That is correct.”

“Who’s the first?” He opened the elevator, and we stepped in.

“My father.. Well, for the next few months. He’ll be handing his enterprise over to me, and then I’ll be the richest in the country. And a few months later, after a couple of business trips to Europe and Asia, I will possibly be the richest in the world.” I nodded my head and froze for a second. I’m supposed to be accompanying him on his business trips. No one ever said anything about going across the world.

“Europe? Asia?” I muttered, and he smirked as the doors opened.

“Oh,my sweet Brielle, you still have much to learn about this lifestyle.”

I walked back into Killian’s office, holding his black coffee with two shots of espresso, pages of contracts, and loads of files. I wasn’t expecting him to give me a whole schedule of tasks to do before the end of the day without even knowing where the bathroom was. Going over to his desk, I sat the coffee down as he continued to type on his computer. I put the files and contracts on the side of his desk, and he spoke.

“Thank you, Ms. Newman. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.” He smirked as he looked up at me. He took a sip of his coffee and nodded his head.

“Marvelous job with the coffee, Ms. Newman, but sadly-” He grabbed my hand, which made me shiver slightly, and placed the cup in my palm.

“I asked forthreeshots of espresso. Not two.” My jaw clenched as I nodded my head.

“I’ll be right back with your coffee, Mr. Russel.” Turning, I left his office and returned to the break room to make another shot of espresso. When it finished, I poured it into the cup and sighed as I mixed. If it weren’t for Anna, I wouldn’t have been able to do.. well, anything. From directions to general advice about what I should do throughout the day to handling Killian’s busy schedule, I was entirely grateful for her..

Grabbing the cup, I walked out of the breakroom and approached his office. As I entered, I silently set his coffee on the desk, and he looked up at me as he continued his phone call. Swiftly, I turned and headed for my office, a prominent blush still on my face as I could feel his eyes on me as I walked.

Once in my office, I continued familiarizing myself with my assigned work. After reading about three or four contracts, the phone rang. Picking it up, I repeated the rehearsed lines Anna had given me a bit earlier.

“Hello. This is the personal assistant to the CEO of KR Inc. How may I assist you?”It didn’t feel natural. It felt very robotic, and it definitely needed some tweaking, but it would do for now.
