“Brielle, if you want to-” I held my hand up as I looked at him.

“No. I will feel much better about this whole situation when they’re all put away, my brother goes back to normal, and my baby is completely safe, so what do we do next?” I questioned, and he walked around, put the files on the table, and laid them out. We continued going over important details of the case, and I felt comforted by Killian as he held a protective hold on my lower back.

Omniscient

Eugene slammed his car door closed as he walked up to the mansion. Before he could knock on the door with as much force as possible, Calvin’s butler, Pierce, opened the door. He let Eugene in and escorted him to the office. Upon opening the door, Calvin looked up from his book and gave a grin. “Ah, Eugene. Just the man I was expecting.”

“What the fuck do you want, Lockwood?”

Calvin gasped dramatically. “Language. If you didn’t notice, my son is also in the room.” Calvin pointed near the fireplace, and Eugene looked to see the young boy reading a book.

“Fine.. What do you want?” Eugene asked with much more force, and Calvin stood up.

“Before we actually get started… I wanted to share a few things with you. Give a bigger insight as to why I need you in the first place and why I want to… help Brielle. Have a seat, will you?” He requested. Eugene took a seat on the chair and sat back as he watched Calvin lean against the edge of his desk.

Calvin bit his lip and sighed. “Where to start, where to start… I guess I’ll go back to the beginning when I met a certainsomeonein Killian’s office.” Eugene listened to the man as he explained his story. Eventually, he didn’t like where it was headed. By the time Calvin finished, Eugene stood up angrily and glared at the man.

“What kind of fucked up plan do you have in mind? Huh? What makes you actually think that I would help you at all?” Calvin shrugged.

“That’s the thing, Eugene. You don’t actually have a choice or say in the matter.. That is if you don’t mind your family finding out about your rather extensive list of crimes.”

“You’re a psychopath.” Eugene snarled, and Calvin made a face as he shrugged.

“Eh, I won’t argue with that, but you’re not any better, so..”

“15 years.. You’re willing to wait 15 years for something that may not even happen. What are you even going to do with that time?”

“Prepare for it. Expand my company.. invest… I have a plan for every year written down if you’d like to see it.” Eugene didn’t say anything as he stared at the man who seemed truly psychotic.

“What do you think Brielle will say about this? Hell, scratch that. What do you think Killian’s going to think when he finds out that you want to use hisdaughterto get to his company?” He asked, and Calvin responded.

“That’s why I’m planning 15 years ahead. By that time, it won’t be too hard for him to digest, and our businesses will indeed thrive.” Calvin looked over to his son as he continued.

“I’m sure you understand, Eugene.. Success requires careful preparation, orchestrating all moving parts.. sacrifice…” Looking back over to him, Calvin smiled. “We have a lot of work to do… I would suggest we get started now.”

“And what exactly am I supposed to be doing?” Eugene asked.

“Well, all in all, you’ll get the chance at revenge. I know you couldn’t care less about Cheryl, Gregory, or Marissa… In order to succeed, you need to get your hands a bit dirty at some point. Now, for someone like me, I wouldn’t dare risk doing such activities myself... which is why I hire someone else to do it… And since you already have some dirt on your own hands, I simply thought.. why not?”

He tilted his head at Eugene, who stood emotionless. “Especially for this type of circumstance, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind getting them a little dirtier now, would you?”

Eugene didn’t say anything, but the look in his eyes gave Calvin the answer he was looking for, and he nodded his head as he continued. “Now then.. let’s get to work.”

Chapter fifty-eight

Brielle

I woke up to a little person shaking me softly and tiny paws walking up and down my back. “Mommy, mommy! Wake up! Wake up!” Peeking one eye open, I saw Delilah shaking me as hard as she could. I closed it quickly when I saw her look at my eyes, but she gasped and came close to my face. She opened my eyes with her little fingers and shook her head, giving me a knowing look.

“I know you awake, Mommy. You can’t hide from me.” I giggled and pushed her hand away from my eye as I pulled her closer.

“And I tried so hard to, but you’re too quick for me.” She gave me a smile, and I looked over my shoulder to see her puppy lying on my back as if it was the most normal thing to do.

“Can you please get Marshmellow Snowball? I think he’s falling asleep.” She tsked as she picked him up and playfully scolded him. I sat up slowly and noticed Killian wasn’t in the room. Feeling his side of the bed, I furrowed my eyebrows as it was cold. I looked over to the time and saw it was already 8:30 AM.

“Baby, did Daddy leave?” I asked her, and she nodded her head.

“He told me to tell you that you have the day off.”Day off? It’s so unlike him to do that, especially because he can’t exactly function without me around him. I stood up from the bed and walked to the closet.
