“What about Uncle Blainey? Did he go with him?” I asked.

“I think so. Uncle Eugene left, too.” She responded, and I bit my lip in confusion. All three of them up and left without saying a word to me? It’s obvious that Eugene is doing something secretive with his time, but I can’t help but feel the same with Blaine and Killian.

Harrison gave me a good overview of what could happen to my family as well as the potential charges that would put them away, but he didn’t tell me how they would actually find them since they’d been missing. I grabbed a sweater, a pair of jeans, and light brown knee-high boots for my outfit of the day and placed them by the bed.

“What are you going to do today?” I heard Delilah ask me, and I tilted my head.

“A few things… I’m gonna stop by a few places and take a visit to Daddy’s office. I’ll drop you off at dance class today, too.” She smiled excitedly and hopped off the bed. She picked up the puppy and went to the door.

“I’ll go tell Benny.” She beamed, and I nodded as I made my way to the bathroom. After a shower, I pulled on my clothes and put a bit of lip gloss and mascara on. I placed my hair in a half up, half down, and grabbed my purse as I left the room.

Making my way down the stairs, I went into the kitchen and said hello to Benjamin as I sat to eat my breakfast. Delilah came in with her dance bag and Marshmellow in her hand. After I finished, we made our way to the elevator, and only then did I see that she had kept the puppy in her arms.

“Are you gonna let him down?” I asked her, and she shook her head.

“He comes with me every other day.” I looked over to Benjamin, who was seeing us out, and I raised an eyebrow.

He sighed. “You don’t know how much persuading it took for her not to take him every day.”

“Alrighty then... let’s go,” I said, dismissing the odd conversation. After saying goodbye to him, we entered the elevator. Once we reached the bottom floor, I immediately noticed Nathan’s broad and tense back as he stood in front of opened doors.

“Nathan, what are you doing?” I asked, and he responded, not turning around.

“This is the only elevator that goes to the penthouse, and I was instructed by Mr. Russel to remain here unless you left, to which I will be accompanying you.” I sighed and stepped out as I held Delilah’s hand. He followed me out of the building and did the usual, which consisted of glaring at anyone who looked my way.

He opened the door for us to get in the car and went to the front seat. We reached the dance studio, and I took Delilah inside. The second I stepped into the building, I was immediately bombarded with all the girls who were happy to see me. I hugged them all, and they pulled me into one of the rooms so I could ‘spill the tea,’ as many of them put it, on my relationship with Killian.

They were all excited for the first 15 minutes but scattered as quickly as they came when Madam A banged her stick. I giggled at all of them as they tried to run… Old traditions never die. She gave me a hug before telling me to shoo so the girls could continue dancing. I returned to the car and told Nathan to drive me over to a local coffee shop.

We made it after a few minutes, and the both of us entered. I finished ordering, and we went to sit outside. The snow had cleared up a bit, but it was still a little chilly. Taking a sip of my drink, I looked up to see Nathan looking around cautiously as usual.

“Did Killian tell you why I had the day off?” He shook his head.

“He simply told me to stay with you at all times because he had some important matters to take care of.” I nodded suspiciously.

“And me.. his personal assistant, didn’t know about it before he did?” Nathan didn’t say anything, but I knew he knew it didn’t sound right either. I stood up and grabbed my trash.

“I’m thinking about making a quick stop to the office. What do you think?” I asked him, and he didn’t say anything, but I could tell he seemed apprehensive of what was to come. Walking to put my trash in the bin, I paused entirely as I saw someone coming my way. As if she could feel my eyes on her, she looked up and paused as well.

“Marissa?” I spoke, and she scoffed as she looked away.

“What are the fucking odds that I run into you on a day like this?” She asked. I placed my trash inside the bin, and she looked behind me.

“And you have your bodyguard with you? Just fucking great,” She raged, and I furrowed my eyebrows at her.

“You’re running from Killian..”

“Obviously, I am. Don’t act like you don’t know what’s going on,” she retorted, and I placed my hand on my hip.

“Of course, I know. I just want to know why you’re still trying.. He’s going to catch you eventually. Why don’t you all just confess?” I asked slowly, feeling my blood pumping at the sudden rush of courage I was feeling. She took a few steps towards me before hissing.

“I would kill you first before I ever give myself up.” That made me tilt my head, and I could hear Nathan stand up as he walked closer to me. Only then did I notice how tired and afraid Marissa actually seemed.

“The state you are in right now tells me otherwise, but… I’d like to see you try.” I replied, and she got angrier.

“You bitch!” She approached me quickly, and I stood there, not moving. She was inches away from grabbing me, but Nathan quickly stepped in front of me. He grabbed her neck and lifted her into the air. I gulped softly as I walked from around him to see her dangling from his hold and clawing at his hand.

“You’re gonna… regret this, Brielle.” She choked out before she continued. “Even.. if I do get thrown in jail, you’re still going to get what you deserve.” I grabbed Nathan’s other arm as she started turning blue, and he dropped her to the ground. She caught herself as her chest heaved up and down.
