Turning away as I went back to the car, I heard her again. “You were a mistake! And I will make sure to fucking erase you!!” She yelled, and I looked over to her sadly.

Not because I cared about what she said but because of how much she was tearing herself apart.. just to tear me down. Stepping into the car, Nathan went to the front and drove off. After a few minutes of silence, Nathan looked at me through the rearview mirror and spoke.

“..Are you alright, miss?” I gave him a small smile.

“I am, Nathan.. Thank you.” He nodded, and as if he knew what I was thinking, we arrived at Killian’s building, and he let me out. Walking me inside, I got a few looks, but Nathan surely intimidated them to keep their eyes to themselves.

I was starting to think everyone knew Killian and I were together, but I wasn’t too sure. We entered the elevator and went to the top floor. I stepped out, and Anna looked over at me. Her eyes widened as if I was the last person she was expecting to see, but the look on her face was strange..

“Ms. Newman.. I wasn’t expecting you to come in. Mr. Russel informed me that you would be off today.” I nodded.

“Yes, this is my ‘off’ day, but I decided to stop by for a visit. You don’t need to let him know I’m here. I’ll just walk in.” She gulped as she nodded and went back to her work.

“O-okay.” I tried to ignore her actions, but something in my gut told me not to. I entered Killian’s office without knocking and watched as he lifted his eyes to see who it was. The color slightly drained from his face. What I wasn’t expecting was to see a woman sitting in the chair in front of him. She looked back at me and smiled.

“Oh… hello,” I said, and she stood up. She looked taller than me, even with my heels on, and her blonde hair was in big bouncy curls. She was lean, and her figure was the one of a model’s. Her face was flawless, and she looked extremely nice… I already didn’t favor her.

“Hi, you must be Brielle,” She smiled, and I glanced over at her for a split second before going back to Killian’s eyes.

“Mhmmm…. Who’s this?” I asked him, tilting my head as I crossed my arms, awaiting his answer. Instead, I heard the woman speak.

“My name is Valarie Winters. I was sure that you would’ve known who I was.” She introduced herself, and I shook my head as I looked back at her.

“And who are you exactly?” She laughed softly and spoke.

“Okay, I know it sounds awkward, but I used to date the big guy over there. Well, not exactly date, but.. you get the gist.” I blinked a few times in confusion and looked over to Killian, who didn’t say a word.

“So this is what we’re doing now?” I asked him, and Valarie interrupted.

“I’m only here to help him out. I was assuming you knew. I’ve heard a lot about you, all good things.” I looked over at her and gave a forced smile.

“Well, I haven’t heard anything about you… but if I were to, I’m sure it would be… all good things, too.” I remarked and glanced over at him, sharing my fake smile with him as well.

“I guess I’ll leave you guys to it then.” Killian stood up, ready to speak, but I had already closed the door. Walking over to the elevator, I ignored Anna’s looks of sympathy, and Nathan followed me inside. I leaned against the wall as I crossed my arms, and Nathan tried not to feel awkward in this situation.

“His ‘ex’ Nathan.. Not even that. Just someone he slept with.” I told him as we exited the building.

“…I’m sure it’s all just a big misunderstanding.”

“Well, I got the day off. He didn’t tell me she would be there and looked completely speechless throughout the entire conversation. I know it’s a big misunderstanding, but what makes me upset is that he could’ve at least let me know she was coming. I would’ve been fine with it…”

He gave me a knowing look as he opened the car door for me. “Would you have, really?” I shrugged as I stepped inside.

“I mean… at least I wouldn’t be as angry as I am now.” He nodded and answered.

“Very true..”

Going to the driver’s seat, he started the car.“Back to the penthouse?” He asked, and I shook my head.

“No. Take me to Blaine’s office.” He nodded and pulled off. We reached Blaine’s building and made our way up to his floor. I opened the door to his office, and he raised his eyes from a file he was reading. He sighed, placing it down.

“Am I in trouble?” I shook my head.

“Only if you know what’s going on and tried to leave early this morning to not tell me.”

He nodded. “Okay, so can we act like I don’t know what’s going on and that I left late like always?” He asked, and I gave him a smile.

“Nice try, buddy.” I went over to sit in the chair in front of him, and he folded his arms.
