“Well, you heard the woman. When I see you in the next three months, all problems will be resolved, correct?” They nodded their heads quickly, and I waved them away.

“Alright, out of my building,” They all stood up and scurried to the door. Checking my watch, I noticed it was getting a bit late, and I glanced up at Brielle, who was walking around the room and tidying up. I stood, and she froze as she watched me approach her slowly.

“I’ll have someone take it from here, Brielle. I’m sure George is already outside waiting for you. If not much is to be done tomorrow, you are scheduled to leave early. I wouldn’t want to deprive you too much of your alone time.” She smiled shyly.

“Thank you, sir. I’ll see you tomorrow.” I breathed deeply as her scent continued intoxicating me. I cleared my throat and averted my eyes from looking at her for too long.

“Until then,” I muttered, nodding, and she turned around and walked out of the room as I unconsciously watched her do so.. Even with her being gone for not even two seconds, she already has my brain clouded with the mere thought of her.

Brielle

After discovering yesterday that everyone in the world, including Madam A, knew who Killian was, I was beyond flabbergasted. Mr. Burkley knew who Killian was the second he walked into the library but didn’t have the audacity to tell me that the man who makes me flustered every five seconds would be my future boss. It was no surprise either that Delilah knew who George was since she saw Killian get out of his car to talk to her.

It’s like everyone but me knows exactly what’s going on. I was so furious with Mr. Burkley that I chased him around the apartment with Delilah’s bunny slipper. He didn’t get far, poor old man. Had him screaming in the corner as I hit him with it. I finally stopped when Madam A walked into my apartment and handed me different bags of clothes for my new job that she already knew I would get! I wanted to hit her with the slipper, too, but.. I didn’t want to get hit myself. Today was very hectic, and I was slowly trying to figure out how I would be the personal assistant to the world’s most insufferable man.

Sitting in George’s car, I thought about my current life situation to pass the time. In all honesty, I was afraid of what would happen if I were to see my sister or parents. I have the constant thought of my sister possibly coming back and taking my precious baby away from me. Even though I have full custody, I can’t help but wonder what would happen if she did want Delilah back. Not that she ever had her to begin with. The only person I could go to about this was my brother, who hadn’t contacted me for over a year.

He was two years older than me and left for the army after graduating high school. It broke my heart when he told me he was leaving, and only at sixteen did I connect to him more than my parents or sister. He’s been in the army for almost seven years now, and he never once returned home. He knew I was taking care of Delilah and how much I was struggling, but he had other obligations he couldn’t escape.

Even though he was only able to contact me twice a month at the most, I was happy enough that I was still connected with one of my family members. I can only pray that he’s okay because it wasn’t like him at all to not contact me for this long and leave me worrying.

Being brought out of my thoughts by feeling a hand on my shoulder, I looked to see we had already arrived, and a few tears had unintentionally slipped from the corner of my eye.

“Everything alright, miss?” George asked, looking very concerned, and I wiped my eyes and smiled lightly.

“I’m fine, George. Thank you.” Taking his hand, I stepped out as he grabbed my things and eyed me carefully.

“I know from experience that when a lady says she’s fine, Ms. Newman, she is not. If anything, hell is about to break loose.” He warned, and I rolled my eyes at him as I laughed while he walked me into my complex and up to my door.

“I’m okay, George, really. It’s nothing a little cuddling with my baby and ice cream can’t fix.”

He handed me my things as we reached our destination. “Well, if you need anything, you can always call me. Or Mr. Russel. I’m sure he’d be more than happy to help you in a time of need.” I felt my face heat up with a slight blush, and I nodded as I turned away from him slightly.

“Okay.. Thanks, George.”

Chapter eight

Brielle hurried into Killian’s office while frantically checking her watch as she was already six minutes late. It was Tuesday, and she had forgotten the important files he’d given her to review in George’s car. Luckily, George noticed and met her a little less than halfway to retrieve them for her. Having yet to prepare Killian’s coffee, she felt under pressure. Even though she was only slightly late, she couldn’t control her panicky movements and overreactions, especially considering the man she was working for.

Soon, she placed the files on his desk and his coffee beside them. She wanted to hurry to her office to make it seem like she was already there. However, she clumsily tripped over her feet when, all of a sudden, Killian caught her more petite frame in his arms. She hadn’t noticed when he had walked in a bit earlier as she was busy attempting to make the papers on his desk look presentable.

She blushed as he steadied her back on her two feet. He looked her up and down before averting his eyes momentarily as he took in her attire. From her wavy curls to the way her hips filled out her dress, to say she looked ravishing would be a complete understatement.

He had half a mind to take her against his desk, but he had to control himself and focus on the topic at hand..

“What’s the rush, Ms. Newman?” He asked, and Brielle sighed as she glanced down at her heels.

“I came running in late, and I had forgotten the files in George’s car and then the coffee and… I’m sorry.” He tilted his head to the side and looked at her adorably frightened state. He’d be lying to himself if he said he didn’t absolutely love it..

“I don’t understand why you are apologetic. It’s not like you were not on time. You simply misplaced some things and ran to get them. You were late at the most five minutes.”

Six minutes, to be exact, but she wouldn’t tell him that. She nodded, and her breath hitched as he raised her chin with his finger. She shuddered under his gaze as she tried to keep her nervousness at bay.

Killian noticed every one of her tiny, subtle movements every time he looked at her, and he didn’t understand why. He didn’t understand why she made him feel something no woman had ever made him feel. If any of his employees were to come in even a millisecond late, a letter of termination would be on their desk by the following day. Yet, with Brielle, he felt there should be an exception.

He motioned his head towards her office. “Go unpack your belongings.. I have a few arrangements scheduled today.” Brielle nodded wordlessly as Killian dropped his hand from her chin. She quickly sped to her office and shut the door as if she wasn’t on full display through the glass.

Killian watched her for a moment before returning to his desk. He felt the urge to look at her again, but he couldn’t.. because then he would be giving into his thoughts, and for professional sake, that couldn’t happen.
