“That can’t happen as well. If you don’t already know, you are the co-host of this gala. So it wouldn’t be advised if you didn’t show up.”

“Dammit,” Killian sighed and ran his hand down his face before speaking again. “Do I have to do anything beforehand?”

Blaine nodded. “Of course you do. I need you to meet me in the ballroom tomorrow at two. You’re the perfectionist here, Killian, so you’ll know when something is out of place.”

“Remind me why I agreed to do business with you again?”

“The amount of profit you’ll make in the end.”

Killian nodded his head. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Blaine smiled and stood up while grabbing his book. “Until then, Kiki.” He walked towards me and nodded his head.

“And the same for you as well, Ms. Newman.” He walked out of the room, and I heard the elevator ding. I looked back to Killian to see his eyes directly on me.

“See if I have time around two o’clock to see Blaine. Tomorrow, we leave here exactly at eight.” I nodded my head and stood up. He walked towards me slowly and gazed down at me. We stared into each other’s eyes briefly before he looked away. I saw his Adam’s apple bob slightly before he spoke.

“Good night, Brielle.”

“Good night, Killian,” I replied, and he walked away. Pushing my hair out of my face, I sighed as I made my way to my room.

Killian yelled into the phone once again, and I walked over to his desk, placing his documents down.

“I have somewhere to be at two, dammit. Why the hell would you schedule this without me knowing?” I couldn’t hear exactly what the man was saying, but I could tell he was stuttering.

“If this meeting isn’t over before two, you can consider yourself done in this country.” Hanging up the phone, he stood up and marched towards his file cabinet.

“Go grab your things, only what you’ll need. We’ll be walking to one of my other buildings.” I nodded and walked into my office. Grabbing my phone, iPad, and notepad, I stepped out of my office, but I didn’t even get a chance to walk to the door as Killian grabbed my arm and started pulling me to the elevator.

He was speaking into the phone, and I was trying to keep up with his long strides, but my heels were making it hard for me. Anna looked up for a second and gave me a look of sympathy as she saw how angry Killian was and how terrified I probably looked. The elevator doors closed, and Killian didn’t let go. He wasn’t holding my arm in a death grip, but I could tell it was simply because he seemed frustrated.

He gave me a side eye as I looked at him before he looked ahead again. He went back to speaking, only this time… he switched languages.

“I didn’t know he was going to come. Look, can we just finish this up? I’m busy.”I looked up at him dumbfounded. I knew he was speaking Italian, as a few of the words he said I could recognize, but I would have never guessed that he could speak another language. Once the elevator opened, Killian pulled me out as the lobby was silent. The people in it stared at us, and almost everyone looked confused.

We left the building as Jason, one of the security guards, opened the door for us. As we went down the busy sidewalk, we didn’t have to dodge many people because they already made space so Killian could pass.

For all the people backing away from the path, I didn’t expect someone to bump into my shoulder. Killian had let go of my arm, and I turned to face the person. He was dressed in all black, and his head was down as his hoodie covered it. He looked up for less than a second but looked down before I could properly see his face.

“Sorry.” His voice was deep, and before I could say a word, Killian placed his hand on the small of my back and tried pulling me away. I looked up to see him still on the phone, but when I looked back at the man… he was gone. Yet he was just here? I felt utterly perplexed.

After a few more minutes, we reached a building that looked like Killian’s but just a little bit taller. The guards quickly opened the door as they saw who it was, and we went inside. He paid nobody any mind as he guided me toward the back and went into another one of his private elevators. He pressed the top floor, and once we started ascending, he ended the call. His hand had yet to leave my back, and I looked up at him only to see him already looking at me.

He turned to his phone. “I need you to do a couple of things this evening. First, contact my designer and let her know I want my new suit delivered by this afternoon. Second, provide her with your measurements so she can send you a dress and a pair of shoes..”

“I’m going with you.. to the gala?” I asked, a bit surprised, and he leaned into my ear slightly as he spoke.

“Darling, let’s not dwell on irrelevant or rather obvious questions right now. Of course, you are coming with me.”

We stepped out of George’s car and walked into the building. I was relieved that the meeting went successfully and Killian wasn’t too agitated. George had come to pick us up, and luckily, we made it on time to see Blaine. Walking into the ballroom, I gasped at the sight. It was beautiful, from the gold along the rails to the chandeliers hanging above.

Blaine walked towards us and frowned when he saw Killian. “Why are you always so grumpy?”

“Because I need to be around you for the time being. That’s why,” Killian responded. Blaine rolled his eyes, and they made their way to Killian’s hand, which was still on my back.

I tried to step away from his hand, but once he was no longer touching me, he pulled me back and wrapped his arm around my waist, so now I really couldn’t get free. Blaine raised his eyebrows twice and started to hum rather suggestive, sultry jazz music as he watched our interaction.

“Stop, Blaine,” Killian’s voice cut through the playfulness, and Blaine chuckled, raising his hands in surrender.
