“Alright, where are the decorators?” Killian asked. As if they were waiting for their cue, the doors busted open, and about twenty people walked in holding carpets, flowers, chairs, tables, and more. I observed as they scurried around, attempting to determine the best placement for each item. Killian released his hold on me and approached the director, taking charge of the situation entirely.

“Isn’t it fascinating how he knows exactly where everything should go and why? It’s as if he has a mental map of it all,” I remarked, and he chuckled.

“Why don’t you go see if he needs any help? I heavily doubt he will, but it’ll keep you busy for the moment now.” He suggested, and I nodded as I walked over to Killian.

“I need six chairs at each table. Any more or less, and there will be consequences. Each table receives a vase and a fresh bouquet of white roses. I need the right amount of plates, spoons, forks, glasses, and napkins at each table. I don’t care if someone has to check eighty fucking times. Ensure it’s the right amount. The orchestra must arrive an hour early to prepare, and the dance floor should be spotless. Appetizers should be against the wall, and beverages on the next table over. The main course will be served after everyone arrives and the announcements are over. I need at least fifteen servers ready in the room and ten on standby. Do I make myself clear?”

“Y-yes, Mr. Russel,” The event planner stammered, and I paused my note-taking on my iPad. Evidently, the man was overwhelmed, and I wanted to ensure I captured every detail Killian mentioned. As Killian walked away, the director appeared visibly shaken. I approached him and showed him my notes. He looked down at my iPad and sighed in relief.

“I can send this to your phone, or you can write it down… Just so you don’t forget,” I offered. He quickly sent it to his phone and held my hand in his.

“You are a lifesaver,” He declared before returning to his team to relay Killian’s commands. I stepped away from the bustling scene, and my phone buzzed. It was a message from Sandra, Killian’s designer. She had dropped off our clothes with Benjamin and left me some makeup and hair tools. Though I wasn’t inclined to use them, I appreciated the gesture and thanked her in my reply. With that done, I set off to find Killian once again.

Chapter twelve

Brielle

I stepped out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around me, and found Delilah sitting on the bed, munching on a bag of chips while she watched TV. I walked over to the bed and picked up my dress, a simple yet elegant piece that I hoped would help me blend in with the crowd at the gala, as I didn’t want to stand out too much.

“Are you going out with Killy?” Delilah asked, and I started to put on my clothes.

“I guess you could say that,” I replied as I went over to the mirror, where I carefully removed the pins from my pin curls, giving my hair a soft, loose look as I didn’t want the curls to be too tight.

“So… is it a date?” She questioned cheekily, and I chuckled. “No, baby, it isn’t a date.”

She pouted, “Dang it.” I couldn’t help but smile at her cuteness as I continued to get dressed.

“Killy told me I could have my own room,” she revealed, and I looked over my shoulder at her as I fastened my necklace, slightly surprised.

“He did?”

“Mhmm.. He told me it would be right next to this one.”

“.. Are you sure you’re ready to sleep on your own?” I said as I, myself, didn’t want her to sleep in another room.

“I am.. B-but if you don’t want me to Bribri, I understand.”

I smiled sadly as I pushed my hair over my shoulder and slipped on my heels. I would often have nightmares that would shake me in my sleep. Delilah was my little good luck charm, as whenever I held her, they would go away. I guess I had to get over it slowly because my little baby wanted to start being more independent. Who was I to stop her?

“If you want your own room, baby, I’ll talk to Killian about it, and you’ll be all set.” She squealed happily before she jumped up and down on the bed.

“Thank you, Bribri! Thank you, thank you!!” I kissed her forehead.

“You’re welcome, Dede.” Grabbing the matching clutch, I looked into the mirror and sighed. Hopefully, this was enough to impress Killian and plenty of other wealthy people.

I felt a little self-conscious with my leg being on show from the slit, but I really couldn’t do much about it as it was already eight. Before leaving the room, I kissed Delilah one last time and kept the door open so Benjamin could hear her. Walking down the stairs, I bit my lip as I saw Killian in another one of his black suits, and his hair was more polished than usual. He made eye contact with me, and his eyes scanned my body. He looked away and cleared his throat.

“You look… exquisite.” I looked down at the ground as my cheeks became red.

“Thank you..” Before I was able to say another word, his phone rang. He picked it up and held it up to his ear.

“What do you want now?” I assumed it was Blaine by the way his demeanor changed. I looked to the side to see Benjamin snapping a photo with Delilah by his side. When I gave them my full attention, they scurried out of the room, almost tripping. I turned back to Killian to see him irritated.

“What do you mean people are already starting to arrive? The event starts at nine, dammit” He sighed when Blaine spoke.

“Alright, we’ll be there in 20 minutes.” He hung up the phone and marched to the elevator. I hurried over to him with small, cautious steps, and we entered the elevator that led to the garage. Once the doors closed, he turned to me.

“You stay by my side the entire night. No wandering off, no exploring. Mingle with only the people I instruct you to.” I nodded my head quickly as I looked up at him.Good thing I went to the bathroom beforehand. The doors opened, and we walked out.
