“You werethis close, Killian. But sadly, it didn’t work out for you. I know I’m not the best, but if I make every one of these shots on my turn, you, for the first time in history, are going to lose a game of pool.”

“I’m making the shot, and when I do, I don’t want to see your face anywhere near me.” Killian seethed as I was sitting here, literally praying that he would make the shot.. even though it seemed impossible.

“And when you don’t make the shot, I expect to see her at my office tomorrow at 9:00 AM sharp.” Killian physically growled, and I jumped as the almost animalistic sound coming from him echoed around the room. He quickly angled his cue at the ball, and once he was satisfied, he hit the ball, which rolled around and pushed the 8-ball in.

Unconsciously, I jumped up and down as I clapped my hands ecstatically before a blush coated my face. Killian remained emotionless as he placed the cue down.

“See you in two weeks.” He walked over to me, put his hand on my lower back, and led me out, with Blaine following.

“Until then.. tata for now. Hopefully, I’ll be seeing you soon, darling.” Calvin spoke, referring to me, and as we exited the building, I looked over at Killian with narrowed eyes.

“Were you truly attempting to sell me for a week or two away from him?” I asked, and he opened the car door for me as he gazed at me from head to toe. Though I wanted to put up a brave face, I felt small under his intimidating gaze. He leaned in slightly, and I blushed as his cologne engulfed me entirely.

“No, sweetheart. I wasn’t trying to sell you. There’s no way in hell I would ever let that man get anywhere close to you. Besides.. I couldn’t even sell you if I wanted to..you’re priceless.”

Chapter thirteen

Brielle

Walking into the dining room, I looked around for Killian as it was already 7:45 AM. He was quite enraged after yesterday’s encounter with Calvin. Though I was curious to see where he was since he was usually on time, I was slightly relieved he wasn’t here yet. I could finally get some things done without having him breathe down my neck.

Sitting at the table, I pulled my laptop out and sighed as I put a piece of bacon in my mouth. Opening my bank account, my eyes almost came out of their sockets, and I choked slightly. I took a small sip of orange juice to compose myself and looked back at the screen.$2000?I have never seen this much in my bank account all at once.. and only after working one week?

Sadly, with everything moving at such a fast pace, I completely forgot to pay my bills, and they were all overdue. I went into each one and paid the rightful amount plus the late fee so they could receive it in a few business days. Continuing to go through the list as I ate, I flinched when I heard his voice in my ear.

“Good morning, Brielle.” I turned to him quickly, and my face reddened at his closeness. He rested his arm on the table and the other on the back of my chair.

“G-good morning, Killian.” I groaned on the inside for making a fool of myself in front of him once again.

“Enjoying your morning so far?” He asked, and I nodded as I didn’t trust my voice at all. Then, I returned to my laptop and logged out of every account I worked on. While I was closing the computer, I could feel his eyes on me. Eventually, he walked over to his seat, and as he started eating, I remembered something from last night that had been on my mind all night.

“If you don’t mind me asking… Who is Calvin?”

He leaned back in his chair. “An old colleague of mine who turned on me for his own personal interests, but I’m sure you already gathered that much from last night.” I nodded my head as he continued. “He’s one of my main competitors, most likely the only one for that matter. And along with being a pain in the ass and owning a multi-billion dollar company… He also has a son.” He continued, and I tilted my head.

“Really?” He nodded in response.

“Hard to believe, I know, but he was a bit of a playboy, and I guess it all backfired on him.” Finishing his breakfast, he stood and looked at his watch. “We’ll be leaving shortly.” He muttered, so I grabbed the dishes for Benjamin and placed them in the sink. Then, I went to the living room to say goodbye to him and my baby for the day.

Walking into my office after my small lunch, I sighed, looking at the paperwork already stacked high. Sitting at my desk, I glanced over my shoulder through the glass wall to see Killian staring at his screen in concentration. It looked like he had something significant on his mind… Oh, who am I kidding? He always has something on his mind. I began working at the computer and answered phone calls as Killian had multiple meetings this week.

After about twenty minutes of working, I looked out the corner of my eye to see Killian pacing back and forth slowly in front of his desk. One of his hands was in his pocket, and the other was holding the phone up to his ear. He was talking intensely into the phone, and I felt somewhat bad for the person on the other end. Returning to my work, I continued for an hour or two and was so focused that I didn’t even notice the door open. I heard someone’s footsteps, and I looked up to see Killian walking in.

He stopped behind me, and I knew he was just observing because if he genuinely needed me, I don’t think he would have come in here. A minute or two passed, and I flinched when I felt him lower his body to hover over mine. He placed his hands over mine, which were still on the desk, and I felt my heart race. I tried to say something as he leaned closer to my ear, but I couldn’t form words.

“….Have dinner with me tonight.” His dark voice sent a slight vibration through my body, and I almost felt at a loss. It felt so sudden… this question, as well as his change in demeanor. Did our encounter with Calvin trigger something in him? Was it our soon-to-be kiss that was cut short?

“Don’t y-you think it’s a bit… inappropriate to engage in this kind of affair with your employee..”

“Inappropriate..” He muttered, and I bit my lip as he continued. “Well, that depends..”

“On what, Mr. Russel?” I whispered, looking up at him, and a blush coated my face as his finger lifted my chin slightly.

“On whether I cloud your mind as much as the mere thought of you torments mine.”

“Oh, that dress looks fabulous! You should wear that one.” I groaned at Madam A through FaceTime as she said that for the last six dresses I showed her.

“Madam A! I need to find something to wear. This closet is full of clothes, but I can’t find anything.” I said, rummaging through my new closet, and she shrugged.
