“S-she won’t answer,” He heard the little girl speak, and he looked up at her as she continued. “S-she used to have bad dreams about… bad people coming to take me away.. She doesn’t stop crying when she wakes up from one, and she won’t say anything.”

He watched as the poor girl shook violently, and she eventually started to hyperventilate slightly. Keeping his eyes trained on Brielle, he spoke to Delilah. “Does she usually act like this?”

“N-no,” Delilah whispered softly, as she was very confused and scared for Brielle. As Brielle trembled softly, Killian slowly brought her into his embrace. Laying her head on his shoulder, he wrapped his arms around her as she cried.

“Brielle… darling, you’re okay..” He attempted to soothe her as she shook a bit more violently in his embrace. Nonetheless, he kept his hold firm while trying to soothe her.

“Just try to breathe. You’re okay. Delilah is okay. Everything is okay..” He whispered, though it seemed futile as her trembling didn’t subside. Rubbing his hand on her upper back, he noticed she’d broken out into a slight sweat as her chest seemed to heave abnormally, almost as if she was in pain. The signs of her having a panic attack were evident, and he did his best to remain calm in the situation to provide her with as much support as she needed.

Soon, her breaths became more even, and he pulled away slightly to make eye contact with her tear-filled eyes. Wordlessly, he pulled her back in and was somewhat stunned as her arms slowly wrapped around him, pulling him into her embrace as well. As time passed, he could feel her embrace gradually loosening, her breaths slowing ever so gently.

Slowly, he tucked Delilah, who’d drifted off, and picked Brielle up off the floor in bridal position. Walking out of the room, he stepped into Brielle’s room and laid her on her bed. Tucking her in as well, he left the room and made sure both doors were open so he could hear if anything else were to happen. He went back into his room and kept the door ajar as well. Getting into bed, he couldn’t help but wonder what had her so distressed. Whatever it was, he was hoping to be the one who could help to fix it.

Killian walked into the dining room and set his briefcase down. Even though it was early, there was still no sign of Brielle, and he was starting to feel a bit concerned, especially after last night. Benjamin soon walked in with George and Blaine by his side. Killian sighed as he looked down at his phone.

“What did I do now?”He muttered, feeling like the center of an incoming intervention.

“I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation in the early morning with Ms. Newman,” Benjamin spoke, and Killian looked over at him, puzzled.

“What were you even doing up at two in the morning?”

“I was waiting for a parcel to arrive. I had ordered it last night, and after a large tip was promised, I received it six hours later.” Killian rolled his eyes, forgetting how much of a shopper Benjamin was. Once he saw a tuxedo or tea set that he was ‘in love with,’ he would pay extra to have it delivered the day of.

“And let me guess, you told these two what you heard, and that’s why they’re here?” Killian concluded, and Benjamin nodded firmly. “That is correct, yes.”

“Sir, if I may… when I had begun taking her home, I’d opened the door for her and saw that she had been crying. I asked if she was okay, but as a regular defense mechanism, she said she wasfine.” George spoke, and Killian thought for a second.

“Listen, we’re going to be leaving for London soon, and from the way Benjamin explained it to us, it seems like she’s paranoid about someone taking Delilah away from her. Maybe the mother of the child, perhaps?” Blaine questioned, and Killian nodded.

“I think this may all be getting to her… I’ll need to make sure she’s out of the public eye if this sister of hers or anyone is truly a threat. We were lucky at your gala last week. There were no paparazzi to showcase anything to anyone.”

“Then that’s all you have to do. Explain to her that she’ll be safe and that there shouldn’t be anything she should worry about for the time being.” Blaine suggested, and Killian nodded again as he checked his watch for the time.

“I’ll stop by your office in a while. I need to go work out a few things..” Blaine spoke and walked out of the room. George left to wait in the garage, and Benjamin returned to the kitchen. Killian walked into the living room, and he heard the sound of heels descending the stairs.

He walked over to Brielle, and she tried to walk around him, but he caught her waist in his hand. Her hair was down her back, and she wore a light purple long-sleeve dress and white pumps. She tried to step out of his hold, but he pulled her closer.

“Darling, talk to me.” He spoke, and she sighed. “I d-don’t have anything to say,” She replied softly, and he held her closer.

“I just want to make sure you’re alright.”

“…I know.”

“You don’t have to worry about anything… I don’t want you stressing over something that will never happen.. You and Delilah are safe, alright?” She leaned her head against his arm.

“I know..” She took in his scent and sighed as she felt her nerves oddly subside, though their proximity made a blush coat her face. Pulling away from her, Killian grabbed his briefcase and returned to the living room. They walked towards the elevator, and he kept his hand on the small of her back as he guided her inside.

Soon, they were at the office, and Brielle got her things in order before getting to work. Throughout the morning, Killian was remarkably lenient with her and made her smile whenever he spoke to her. He brightened up her spirit, and she was happy that he was also in a calm and relaxed mood. Getting a buzz from Anna, she pressed the button.

“Hi, Anna-” She didn’t even get to finish speaking as she cut her off.

“Brielle. We’ve got a problem.”

“What do you mean-” Brielle stopped speaking as Calvin and a few of his associates walked into Killian’s office. She scrambled to get up, ran out of her office, and entered his.

Killian stood up and slammed his hands on his desk.“What. Are. You. Doing. In. My. Office?” He seethed, putting emphasis on each word, and Brielle gulped as his eyes darkened.

“Killian, my friend, I can’t stop by for a simple conversation?”Calvin questioned with a smug look on his face.
