“Neicy Dede? Um, where’s my huge little girl?” She hopped off the chair and ran over to him, jumping into his arms. He walked over to the table and tickled her softly. I placed my elbow on the table while resting my chin on my hand.

“And when did this relationship start?” I questioned, and he shrugged and sat in the chair across from me with Delilah on his lap.

“I don’t remember.. maybe two weeks ago? We’ve just been keeping it on the down low. I face-timed her a little earlier and had someone deliver her a few gifts and such.”

I shook my head. “You all spoil her too much. You better not be corrupting my baby.” I pointed a finger at him, and he waved me off.

“You already corrupted her yourself. Never in my life have I seen a child actually deny gifts and toys.” I rolled my eyes at him, and they froze when I saw Killian walking in with dark gray joggers and a white t-shirt. I bit my lip as I tried to avert my eyes, but he’d already caught me staring and sent over a slight wink. I looked away and glared at Blaine, Delilah, and Leo as they whispered and giggled while staring at our interaction.

“Look, they’re matching,” Delilah whispered, and Blaine leaned in.

“That’s because they like each other,” He whispered even lower, and Leo and Delilah acted surprised and started laughing. I ignored them and watched as Killian took a seat beside me. He looked over at Leo and Blaine and sighed.

“Why are you two in my home?”

They both shrugged and replied at the same time. “I’m hungry.”

Killian sighed as he shook his head, and Reginald came in and started serving us the food. Once we all had our plates, he sat on the other side of Killian, and everyone took the first bite. I took mine and waited for their reaction.

“Oh my God,” Blaine said out of nowhere with a mouthful, and he held his hand up to his mouth. My heart raced for a second, but I rolled my eyes playfully as he shook his head and made fake tears come to his eyes. “I just need a second..” He exaggerated, and Delilah pulled him into a hug as if something was actually wrong.

“No wonder this is your cooking. Reginald would have never made food this good.” Killian spoke, and Reginald dropped his fork on the plate with a clank and looked over to Killian. “I’m offended, sir.”

Killian sighed, and the rest of us tried to stifle our laughs. “Alright.. I guess your cooking isn’t the worst, and at times… it can be good,” He muttered the last part, and Reginald smiled as he picked up his fork and continued to eat.

After eating and conversing, we finished up, and both Blaine and Leo made a few plates to go, which didn’t bother me much as we still had food left over. They said their goodbyes, and Reginald and I stayed back to clean up a bit while Killian disappeared to the living room. Once we finished, Reginald took Delilah to get her ready for bed, and I walked out of the kitchen and made my way to the stairs.

I stopped midway when I saw Killian sitting in the living room, drinking a glass of red wine with the bottle and another glass on the table. His eyes watched me as I approached him slowly. In some way, he’d created an almost alluring atmosphere.. just from his presence and gaze alone.

“Join me, will you?” He requested, and I sat beside him on the couch as he placed his glass on the table and poured me one. After handing it to me, I took a small sip and held it in my hands as he looked back at me.

“I want to thank you for making dinner tonight. You didn’t need to.” He spoke, and I smiled and pushed my hair behind my ear.

“It’s fine... It was a good distraction for the time being..” He took another sip of his wine, and I spoke again.

“I have a few.. requests I would also like to share with you..” I muttered, and he nodded.“I’m all ears.”

“Firstly, Delilah’s birthday is in a few weeks, and I wanted to know if I could throw a small celebration for her at your penthouse. Nothing too big, very intimate, and I completely understand if you say no. She also talked about wanting to trick or treating.. And lastly, I want to shop without feeling like I’m being watched or forced to shop in certain areas.” I admitted, slowly trailing off as he listened intently. Averting my eyes from his, I took a swig of my wine as I awaited his response.

“Do you want me to be nice?” He asked after a moment, and I sighed as he let out a chuckle before continuing.

“My party planner can plan Delilah’s birthday. She’ll coordinate with a few different people and plan for a party with her dance friends and a few of the princesses in the movies… she still enjoys those, am I correct?” He asked, and I simply nodded as I took another sip of wine.

He continued, “As for the candy and costumes, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it, and as for you, darling, we wouldn’t be in this predicament if you were less defiant when it comes to your compensation.”

“So this is all my fault for not accepting the half-a-million-dollar weekly salary then?” I attempted to clarify, and he tilted his head.“In a sense.. sure.”

“And you’ve decided it is justifiable to control what I do, where I go, how I do things, and when I do them because I won’t willingly accept your terms and conditions?” I questioned, and slowly, I watched his eyes darken as he spoke.

“Darling.. I’m doing it for no other reason than the fact that I can.”

“I don’t think I follow,” I muttered, and he placed the glass on the table.

“You don’t follow.. tell me, Brielle, why are you here?”

“Here as in…” I tilted my head, and he shrugged.

“Why do you work for me? Why is it that you reside in my home? Why do you have an eight-figure yearly salary for a job that can be done with a five-figure one?”
