“Worse, you and Brielle.. And me, of course.”

“Now, why would that idiot invite me to a gala that he’s hosting himself?”

“I don’t know.. But you should be asking why Brielle also got an invitation.”

“He wants something climactic to happen at the event,”I reasoned as I thought for a moment, and he took a bite of his chocolate before he shrugged. “I think we should go.” He suggested, and I tilted my head.

“And why is that?”

“To see what he’s come up with. If we figure out his first step, we learn the rest on our own.”

“Why do you think he’s so invested with Brielle?” I questioned, and he raised his eyebrows slightly.

“Typical Calvin.. He wants something you have.. which is pretty good if I do say so myself.” I glared at him, and he raised his hands in surrender as he continued. “Or! Or.. he could be planning something that involves Brielle and still leads to him making you fail..”

“I don’t think that’s going to happen.” I shook my head, and he lowered his hands as he spoke.

“Well, after many years of him trying, obviously that’s true, but… he’s found your one and only weakness.”

“And what might that be?”

“Brielle.. and in some cases Delilah.” After contemplating his words for a moment, I came to the realization that he was right. I knew from the moment they entered my life that they had the power to bring out the best or worst in me. And the fact that they were a weakness was a clear indication that they would bring out the worst.

“Speaking of Brielle, what’s happening with you two? Where is she?” He continued, and I shrugged as I responded.

“Of course, I didn’t want her to come, so I made her stay at the office and do a bit of paperwork. She whined and begged me not to give it to her, and I almost caved in…almost.”

“Kiki?” He said idiotically, and I replied in the same tone.

“Blaine?”

“You’re whipped, man..”

I shook my head. “And you’re delusional.”

“So you guys are on speaking terms again?”

“We are,” I muttered, and he nodded his head.

“Unfortunately.. I know what happened last night, Killian.” I looked back at him quickly, and he shook his head as he spoke again. “Benjamin talked to George, and they both talked to me. No need to recount the details.”

“Stop getting into my personal life.” I groaned, and he smiled.“Kiki. I’m a part of your personal and regular life.”

“Wish you weren’t,” I whispered, but of course, he heard and took it as a playful offense.

“…Hurtful,” he whispered, taking another spoon of his chocolate, and I rolled my eyes as my phone buzzed. Looking down, I noticed it was Brielle.

Brielle: I’m done with everything, so you can come back now.

“I gotta run. Stop by a little later.”

“Did Bribri call you back to the office?” He questioned teasingly, and I sighed.

“Blaine, if there wasn’t a small part of my mind that actually tolerated you, I might’ve strangled you the first day I met you.” He placed his hand over his heart as he almost gasped in surprise.

“Really? You.. like me?” I rolled my eyes, smirking, and he laughed as we both walked out of the room.

Entering my office, I watched Brielle come in and place the files on my desk. She looked over her shoulder and smiled at me. Walking over to her, I pulled her hips over to mine so that her back was against my chest. She placed one of her hands on mine and traveled her other hand up to my hair.
