Brielle splashed freezing-cold water on her face as she tried to snap out of the nightmare she was stuck in. Her light mascara and lip gloss were ruined from crying and from the splashing water, but she didn’t care. She was perplexed as to why she couldn’t wake up despite pinching herself for minutes, and now she had resorted to using other methods.

“It’s not working. W-why n-not.. W-why can’t I wake up?” She cried as she could vividly remember dreams in which she was able to wake up just as her parents or Marissa tried to tear her away from Delilah.

She tried to soothe her hyperventilation as she continued to believe she was stuck in one of her nightmares once again, only this time… it felt too real. She saw Killian and Blaine, but there was nobody else from her past, which confused her. She heard the door open and looked over her shoulder quickly to see Marissa walking in.

Marissa tsked at her little sister, “You’ve always been such a messy little bunny.. clumsy and just downright stupid.” Brielle sniffled as she backed away from Marissa as past memories of the hurtful nickname resurfaced.

She’d always loved bunnies and rabbits to this day since she was a child, and Marissa consistently made fun of her for it. She’d always wanted to own one but worried what her older sister would do to it.

“Mother and father would be ashamed.. what am I saying? They still are.” Brielle continued to back away, and Marissa stopped.

“When Calvin told me you were with Killian.. I didn’t believe him for a second. I thought to myself.. Why would Killian, out of all people, want someone as low-life and pathetic as you?… Well, I guess you weren’t too pathetic to raise my child. Thanks for that little favor, by the way. You saved me so many years.”

“I-I struggled even to eat half the time because she needed food. Do you not care that I was barely surviving, trying to make sure she was alright? She was premature, so I had to spend extra money visiting the hospital every month with her for a year. Do you not have any sympathy for me or your own daughter?” Brielle asked, holding back her sobs, and Marissa shrugged.

“Why do you think I left her to you? I didn’t need the burden of a premature child on me day in and day out, and since you were doing so well on your own, I thought you would enjoy some extra company.” Brielle felt her heart break, and Marissa pouted.

“Is the dumb bunny upset that her big sister came back into her life?”

“What do you want from me?” Brielle seethed as her sister was taken aback slightly.

Nonetheless, she continued. “I guess the connection between you and… Delilah has grown a lot over the years, so asking for her would be a little too much for you.. but that is exactly what I want.. Maybe after I get Delilah, I’ll take Killian along with me.. I’m sure that doesn’t sound at all pleasing either..”

Brielle didn’t say anything, and after what felt like hours, Killian opened the door, and Marissa turned around and smiled once again.

“Killian, what are you doing in here? I was just having a little chat with Brielle.”

“It’s Mr. Russel to you, and I’m not at all convinced that those were your intentions.” Marissa rolled her eyes.

“Okay, Mr. Russel, I’ll get out of your hair. You might want to get out of the bathroom, too.. this is for us women, you know.” She walked past him and turned to Brielle, her smile growing a bit more sinister.

“I’ll see you later, Bri. Answer my calls, will you?” She walked out, closing the door, and Killian looked over to Brielle, who had her arms wrapped around herself as she sobbed silently. He stepped over to her and wiped the tears from her rosy cheeks.

“She wants to ruin my life…” Brielle whispered, and Killian pulled her into his chest. She hugged him back with a bit more force and continued crying.

“Brielle.. She won’t be doing anything, you understand?” He stroked her hair, and she shook her head as she looked up at him.

“B-but you came in too late. You didn’t hear what she said-” He grabbed her chin, effectively cutting her off.

“Brielle. She won’t be doing anything. I told you I won’t allow it.”

“H-how can you be so sure? S-she’s already with C-Calvin and- and-” He shushed her before she could ramble as he pulled her closer and raised his voice slightly.

“Brielle, stop. I need you to calm down. Nothing is going to happen to you or Delilah..”

“Are you sure?” She whispered, and he responded. “Have I ever made you believe I wasn’t?”

“…No.”

“Nothing will happen. I won’t allow it to, okay?”Brielle wiped a few of her tears away. “Okay..”

Brielle continued to watch Delilah as she slept peacefully in her bed. She and Killian arrived back at the penthouse about an hour ago, and after getting herself together, she went over to Delilah’s room and sat on her bed as she watched her sleep. She occasionally brushed a few pieces of hair out of her face and smiled softly each time the little girl scrunched her face.

Delilah opened her eyes slowly and glanced up at Brielle. “..Bribri?”

“I’m sorry, baby. I didn’t mean to wake you. Go back to sleep.” Delilah nodded and turned on her side, falling back asleep immediately. Brielle stood up slowly and made her way to her room. Her mind was still shaken from seeing her sister in person, and she still couldn’t process if it was all in her head.

She sat on her bed, pulled her knees to her chest, and wrapped her arms around them. Laying her head on her knees, she got lost in her thoughts. Soon, she started to doze off; however, a knock at the door brought her back to reality.
