“I don’t want to rely on you or force you to sacrifice anything for us.. you’ve already done so much.” Pulling away, Killian placed his hands on the sides of her face.

“And it’s not enough. Not if you aren’t safe, not if Delilah isn’t safe. It will never be enough.” He shook his head, and she breathed, attempting to slow her breathing as she placed her hand over his.

“So what happens now?”She asked softly, and he responded. “For now, you take a break. You’ve dealt with a lot for the past few days... you need to clear your mind.”

“I think you’re right.”

“I always am..” He muttered, and she rolled her eyes as a small smile came to her face. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she leaned her head on his shoulder as he wrapped his around her waist.

He gazed down at her for a moment as he thought. It felt odd… the feelings she made him feel. He’d never cared for someone the way he did for her, nor did he ever want to protect someone as much as he wanted to for her or Delilah.

“I’m almost afraid to admit it, but…” She began, and he pushed a piece of hair out of her face as she continued. “Sometimes.. I don’t know what I’d do or where I’d be without you.” She muttered, and he simply pulled her closer, thinking much of the same was the truth for his situation when he thought about life without her.

“Thankfully, you’ll never find out..” He replied truthfully, and they remained in silence.

Despite Brielle’s desire to trust Killian and his promises, she couldn’t shake the lingering fear of abandonment that was embedded in her. Clinging to hope that he would stick around was a long shot, considering their different lifestyles and upbringing.

She wanted to believe him, but she’d already begun mentally preparing for the worst so she wouldn’t succumb to those feelings surrounding her loneliness if another person she relied on left her once again.

Brielle walked out of Killian’s bathroom as she pulled her hair into a ponytail. It was about 9 PM, and he was busy working on his laptop. It was odd for her to see him in glasses, but nonetheless, she quite liked his new look. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he spoke after a moment.

“.. Does Madam Alexandrova switch languages often while getting angry?” He asked, and Brielle giggled.

“Way too much.. I’m even starting to pick up on some of her words, but I would rather not say them myself.”

“When I spoke to her earlier today, she was surprised when I responded in Russian.” He recalled, and Brielle tilted her head.

“Don’t tell me you speak more languages than Italian and English, Mr. Russel? I promise your résumé proves you’re qualified enough as it is.” She teased, and he gazed up from his laptop to see her staring at him intently.

“Well, if I have to impress a woman like you, Ms. Newman, I’d say it’s important that I’m well-versed in the languages my clients and business partners speak.” He uttered as Brielle hummed.

“And how many do you speak?” She questioned, to which he simply shrugged.

“When you find one I don’t speak, I’ll let you know.” He winked, and she rolled her eyes at his antics before hearing a knock at the door. “Bribri?” She heard Delilah, and she walked over to the door.

“Hey baby, everything alright?” she asked, having just put the little girl to bed not even an hour earlier.

“Can I come in?” Brielle opened the door and saw Delilah in her PJs with her phone in her pocket.

She picked the little girl up. “Of course you can, baby. Why did you ask?”

“Well, Benny said if you were in Killy’s room, I was not to dis..turb?… you after hours.” Brielle’s eyes went wide as saucers, and she looked over to Killian, who was just as shocked. She laughed awkwardly and placed Delilah on the bed.

“You can come in anytime, baby. We’ll have to have a word with Benjamin a little later.” She grinned, looking over to Killian, who was still in a bit of shock. Delilah crawled over to Killian and laid her head on his arm as she pulled out her phone.

“Killian?” Brielle began, and he looked over to her as she sat on the other side of the bed. “Are we doing anything for Thanksgiving?”

“I hadn’t planned on it, no.. We’re going to Japan in two days.” He muttered aimlessly, and Brielle narrowed her eyes at him. “Excuse me, we’re going where?”

“Did I not inform you of the traveling dates I scheduled with my father?”

“Unsurprisingly, Killian, no, you did not.”

“Well, we’re starting our voyage this Wednesday.”

“This is for you inheriting your father’s business, correct?” Killian nodded. “Also, for Blaine and I to meet with some of our clientele.”

“Well, the only way I’ll be happy that we’re leaving is if we have a Thanksgiving where we invite everyone.” He chuckled as he pushed his glasses up. After a few seconds, he looked at Brielle and furrowed his eyebrows. “Oh… you’re serious.”
