Inching closer, she tilted her head as she spoke once again. “I am serious. Won’t it be fun having your parents, Madam A and Mr. Burkley, meet for the first time?”

“I don’t really see what will be fun about having anyone other than you, Delilah, Benjamin, and, unfortunately, Blaine in my home.”

“Not even your parents?” She asked, to which he shook his head.

“My mother maybe.. but I would just challenge my father the entire night. I’d rather not.”

“Killian, it’ll be fun.” She assured.

“I don’t think it will be. I’m not even sure Mr. Burkley likes me.”

“I’m sure he does…”

Killian gave her a look. “Not that I need approval from a librarian, but I don’t think a night altogether will be the best use of our time.”

“Killian, we’re celebrating it..” She asserted, and he thought about it for a moment and nodded. “Alright…”

Brielle furrowed her eyebrows as he closed his laptop. “I didn’t think you would agree that fast. I thought it would take days to convince you.”

“I have…otherthings on my mind that you can do to make up for this tragic affair you’re putting me through.” Brielle picked up Delilah, who was now fast asleep and rolled her eyes at him playfully. “I’m sure you do.”

Chapter thirty-four

Walking out of the plane, Brielle approached the car with a sleeping Delilah in her arms. It was about four in the morning, and they had just landed in Japan. She was exhausted and wanted to crawl back in bed as she knew today would be back-to-back meetings from 9 AM to 6 PM. As a result, she tried to get as much sleep as possible.

Killian walked over to the car as he finished speaking with the driver and opened the door for Brielle. She got in the car and placed Delilah in the booster seat. Sitting in the middle, she leaned her head on Killian’s shoulder after he entered.

She looked up at him and noticed he didn’t look fatigued at all. Even at four in the morning, she realized he still looked professional, awake, and angry, all while overdressed in his suit. Meanwhile, she and Delilah were both in much more comfortable attire.

She looked up into his eyes. “…W-why aren’t you tired?” He looked down at her and brushed the hair out of her face.

“I choose to go to sleep. I know it’s terrible for my health if I don’t, so I ensure I get the required 6-8 hours of rest. If I had a choice, I wouldn’t sleep as much as I do.”

“You could just say you’re a vampire,” Killian chuckled, but he didn’t say anything in reply. Once he finished putting the luggage in the trunk, the driver returned to the front seat and spoke to Killian.

“Good morning, sir.” The man spoke in Japanese, and Killian responded. “Good morning, Hisoka.”Brielle groaned as they pulled off.

“I forgot you’re Google Translate.” Killian glanced down at his phone as he shook his head.

“You must be exhausted, aren’t you, love?” Brielle shrugged.

“Just a little... Is Blaine coming too?”

“Unfortunately. And as usual, he’s two hours late, so we’ll deal with him when he arrives. We’re going to see one of our primary investors. He’s also a well-known friend of ours, and business is always a pleasure when dealing with him.” She nodded softly and spoke once again.

“When are you going to get me to a bed?” She asked with a pout. Killian smoothed her bottom lip with his thumb as he couldn’t stop his mind from thinking about the double meaning of her words.

“Soon, love… Can you give it about 20 minutes?”

“Mhmm,” She hummed, trying not to drift off. After a long, painful twenty minutes, the car finally stopped, and Hisoka exited and opened the door for Killian. He stepped outside and held out his hand for Brielle to take. When she stepped out, she noticed a middle-aged woman opening Delilah’s door and carefully picking her up. She looked over to Killian.

“You know that woman, correct?”

Killian smiled. “Of course I do. I wouldn’t let any random woman take Delilah.” She nodded her head and looked up at the house. She didn’t gasp in awe as she was too tired to even blink, but she did admire its beauty.

Killian walked over to the door and slid it open. He walked her to their bedroom, where she quickly slid off her shoes and jacket before climbing onto the bed as soon as it came into her sight. He shook his head at her behavior and got ready for bed as well. Climbing in with her, once he was settled, he pulled Brielle in closer so she was cuddled into his chest. He smoothed his hand over her face and watched as she slept peacefully.

Since he didn’t sleep much, he often watched her for long hours into the night. She was one of the world’s most precious gifts in his eyes. And being himself, once he found said gift, he wasn’t going to share her with anyone. He was always selfish... Even if she wanted to leave him at some point in time, he would never actually let her go.
