“My executives are here for the conference, Mr. Russel,” Mr. Masahiko informed, and Brielle grabbed her iPad and notes.

Killian walked over to his seat and nodded as he spoke. “Send them in.”

Blaine sat beside Brielle, and together, they watched as the room filled with many men, their faces displaying slight fear. Once they took their seats, a few of them noticed Brielle’s presence and attempted to avert their gaze to maintain professionalism. Mr. Masahiko took a seat at the other end of the table and cleared his throat.

“Gentlemen, Mr. Russell and Mr. Porter have chosen to travel willingly across the globe to come to our aid in our time of need. As you are aware, our stocks have seen significant growth in recent years, thanks to the assistance of KR Inc. However, we have been experiencing financial losses lately. After months of exchanging ideas, we believe that the best course of action for the company would be for Porter Industries to acquire our enterprise. This will allow us to start afresh and grow under their expert guidance.” The atmosphere changed drastically as more than half of the men started speaking in their language, outraged at Mr. Masahiko’s proposition.

Killian held his hand up to silence the men, and they ceased; however, their faces were filled with rage. Killian glanced over to Brielle and noticed she was already looking at him.

“Do me a favor, Ms. Newman, and grab a pitcher of water for these men. It’s going to be a long day.” She nodded and stood up as she made her way to the door. Once out the door, she walked towards the break room. She turned the corner and accidentally bumped into someone, causing them to drop their briefcase and all its components to fall out.

“Oh, I’m sorry. Here, let me help.” She apologized as she was about to bend down, but the man stopped her and spoke angrily in Japanese. Brielle groaned internally and looked up at the man as she sighed.

“I-I’m sorry I don’t understand you.. I can help clean it up if you’d like.” He started speaking harsher as he was enraged, and she gulped, trying to form words to respond to him when he let out a laugh. Her eyebrows furrowed, and he calmed down from his laughter.

“Wow.. gets them every single time.” Brielle was taken aback as he spoke English.

“I’m sorry?” She said in confusion, and he chuckled.

“It’s always fun to scare the people who come to visit our building and don’t know who speaks English or not.” He looked her up and down quickly before going back to her eyes. “Especially when they look like you..”

Brielle felt a blush rise to her face, and he stuck his hand out for her to shake.

“Jurou Sato,” He introduced, and she shook his hand gently.

“Brielle Newman.” She pulled her hand away as she recalled she had dropped all of his things.

“I’m sorry. Let me actually help you clean this,” she said, grabbing the papers. He chuckled as he assisted her as well. “No worries.” Once she finished, he picked up his case, and she continued walking to the break room. She heard him follow her, and he spoke.

“What are you doing here, if you don’t mind me asking? It’s not every day we get to see such a beautiful face.” Brielle smiled as she could somewhat feel he was flirting, but she didn’t want to assume too quickly.

“I’m the personal assistant to the CEO of KR Inc. and… I guess for the CEO of Porter Industries as well.. Also known as Killian Russel and Blaine Porter.” she said, acknowledging her dual role. Despite having to attend to Killian, she ensured all of Blaine’s documents were ready and directed him regarding what he needed to do on a daily basis at times.

“Russel and Porter… oh boy..”

Brielle walked into the room and furrowed her eyebrows. “Why the switch in tones?”

“It’s just that.. those two basically run everything around here, and Mr. Masahiko just complies with whatever they ask of him or give to him.”

“Must be why Mr. Russel tolerates him so much,” Brielle concluded, and Jurou shrugged.

“I guess so… are you not afraid of them?” She shook her head as she filled the pitcher with water.

“Why would I be afraid of them- Well, I understand for Mr. Russel but not for Mr. Porter.”

“Mr. Russel has caused so much chaos in this building that Mr. Masahiko gave him his own personal office to destroy instead of the other offices. When things get out of hand or don’t go his way.. hell breaks loose. Mr. Porter is the same, but he rarely loses his temper… Are you sure you’re not afraid of them?”

Brielle smiled. “Mr. Russel can give me a fright here and there, but other than that, no..”

“Be lucky you’re not.. Everyone else in the building, including myself, is scared shitless of them.”

“Well, that’s good to hear.” The two of them flinched and looked to the door to see Killian standing in the frame. The color drained from Jurou’s face, and Killian glanced down at his watch.

“You have exactly seven seconds to get out of my presence and into that elevator to go to your damn office.” Jurou was already out the door, and Brielle pouted, looking at Killian.

“You’re so mean. You didn’t have to do that.”

He walked over to her. “If only you knew what he was thinking, then you wouldn’t believe I was so mean.”
