Chapter thirty-seven

Killian

Entering my bedroom, I sat on the chair in front of my desk. It was nine o’clock in the morning, and despite having to attend multiple meetings yesterday, I still had some work left to catch up on. I opened the file drawer to my left, retrieved the first few files, and placed them on the desk. After starting up my computer, I folded my hands under my chin and began to reflect on yesterday’s events.

Everything was fine… dandy. You can even say the fucking word peachy.. until Calvin decided to ruin my entire trip with just one message. I reached a point where I was considering hiring a hitman once again. I was absolutely furious, but then Brielle made it all fade.

She had an extraordinary calming effect on me like no one else ever has, and though she calmed me down in a rather.. unconventional method, she was changing the person I was overall. Yes, sometimes my anger can get out of control, as Blaine, my parents, and many others point out, but other than occasional outbursts, I consider myself perfectly fine.”

I was lost in thought when my phone rang. Checking the caller ID, I sighed before answering. “Can I help you with something?”

“I would think you would answer the phone with some sort of happiness or excitement from me calling. Then again, you are my son. I don’t blame you.” He responded, and I shrugged as I opened my email.

“I’m sure the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” He gave a small chuckle and then spoke again. “Have you finished your stay in Japan?”

“I think we have.. We’ll be flying to France in about a week, giving you enough time to prepare for our arrival.”

“You know, Killian, I could just move most of the meetings to London with all of my executives and assistant superintendents.. We could finish this whole process within a few days. We can even move the date of the gala for you to officially acquire my business… You’ve been as persistent lately as you always are, staying focused, but now...”

“Now what?” I asked impatiently, as I wanted to hear him finish.

“Now.. I’m not too sure. Seeing as though you’re still keeping up this feud with Calvin Lockwood, and you still allow him to get inside your head.” I sighed as I leaned back in my chair.

“You know how much that bastard gets me riled up.”

“Which is why you need to put an end to his whole charade and get your focus back in place.. Ms. Newman won’t always be there to calm you down..” I furrowed my eyebrows and heard a knock at the door as I got ready to speak. I turned around to see Brielle holding a cup of coffee. She gave me a small smile before I turned back to the phone.

“Give me one second,” I muttered, putting him on mute. Placing the phone down, I watched Brielle approach me as she sat my coffee on the desk. She was in a light pink long-sleeve top with black tights, and her hair was pulled up into a neat ponytail.

I wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her over to stand closer to me. “Good morning, love..”

“Good morning.. I hope I didn’t interrupt something important,” she said, looking over at the phone.

I shook my head. “Not at all. I’m happy you came in.” She grinned as she ran her fingers through my hair.

Raising my hand to the side of her face, I leaned in to claim her lips. She moaned softly, and I smirked on the inside as I pulled her down to my lap quickly, making her yelp and wrap her arms around my neck.

She pulled away, “You know, you’ve got to stop with those kinds of surprises.”

“You don’t like surprises?” I questioned, and she shook her head.

“Not when they’re from you.”

“Well, I love the surprises you give me.”

She rolled her eyes. “Do you really?”

Placing a kiss on her neck, I whispered in her ear. “You know I do.” She shuddered in my hold, and I placed my hand on her inner thigh, caressing it softly.

“You’re not exactly dressed like you are every morning.. Are we off today?” She asked, noting that I was in a pair of dark gray joggers and nothing else.

“You could say that.. Mr. Masahiko will send me the last of the necessary documents we were supposed to review today. Sadly, they’re remodeling my office.. for the sixth time.”

“It seems you’ll be busy today. I have some things to get done, too, but I don’t think it’ll be a problem for you because you enjoy watching me work while I lose my mind.”

“I surely do.”

She paused before speaking. “You know.. Thanksgiving is in a few days. When are we going back to New York?”
